Ok sigforum brain trust- I’ve been contemplating a full size Glock in 10mm. Leaning heavily toward the long slide one but wouldn’t turn down a 20.

I did once try a gen3 29 and man that was the most miserable pistol I ever shot for recoil. So much that I didn’t buy it.

I’m assuming the recoil mitigation with the full size frame and longer barrels is much better. I am not recoil sensitive. I have two freedom arms and a linebaugh in .475.

I’d like to hear from you with experience with the big Glock Ten.

There are more holster options for the 20/21, if you are going to carry it with a light. The lack of good G40 holsters for my braked G21 is going to make me try to make a Safariland clone.

Dang that’s too bad you did not care for the G29. I have one and feel it is easily controllable even with heavy loads. I’d look at the G40 then if I was in your shoes.

Had a 20 in the very early time frame of their release. This was when 10mm ammo meant 200ish grains going 1200ish fps. I sold it because it kept smacking my forehead with the brass. Recoil wasn't all that bad as I recall though.

Nowadays 10mm isn't all that hot in factory loads, and with you're stated experience level for larger calibers I think you'd be just fine with anything in the full sized line-up.

Had a few G21s and the .45 didn't do anything for me.

Then I bought a pair of G40 MOS uppers and liked them enough to sell the .45 uppers and buy fancy triggers, RMR, etc...

Later I had converted both to .38 Super since I have a pantload of 38s and save the 10mm for my 2011.


I think you will like what the G40 MOS has to offer.

I had a G3 20 but recently sold it. It was my woods gun. Replaced the OEM sights with steel MeproLight tritium's. Extended Glock slide release was the only other mod. Shot great with the usual boring Glock reliability. Accuracy was fine, too. Practice ammo was either Sig or Federal FMJs, whichever was cheaper. Carry ammo was Underwood which I only shot occasionally as I did not wish to accelerate wear on the gun. Recoil was mild with the practice ammo and more noticeable with the Underwood. No problem controlling it. Carried mostly in a Gunfighters chest rig or a Safariland ALS.
If I go 10mm Glock again, it will be a G29. Same basic performance but better portability. I am hoping to run across a Ruger 10mm NM Blackhawk.

I like the 20 but my 29 with Underwood full power loads was the most unreliable gun I have ever owned. I put in new wolf mag springs didn’t help was going to put in the wolf recoil spring but just felt like I could never fully trust it so I sold it. My buddies 20 still jams but not nearly as bad as my 29 he did do both springs. There is no point in owning a 10mm if your shooting normal loads that are how do I say weak .40 caliber ammo at a high dollar price. All I shot was full power loads.

I love my G40, the long slide. It needs a red dot still.

I've only fired factory ammo, Sig 180gr FMJ, AE 180gr FMJ and some Hornady XTP 180gr. The Sig was quite a bit warmer than the AE.

I carry it in a Hill People Gear chest pack with a Raven Concealment trigger guard cover/holster thing tied to the bag. The trigger guard cover would not work with a light that way I don't think.

Both Diamond D Custom Leather and Kenai Holster make chest holster for it. Kenai offers a version for some lights, the SureFire X300 is one. You can also buy just the holster shell, no harness from them. They both over holsters with the cut for an optic.

G29 in a Kenai chest rig is my fly-fishing gun I keep at the trailer.
I changed out the RSA (recoil spring) out to a 21# Wolff RSA Asmy.
It calmed down the slide velocity to be 100% with everything I fed it. I usually have Buffalo Bore in it to carry on the river

Not a Glock 20 but what about the XDM 10mm ?
I don’t own one but I thought I’d throw that out there as another option.

Yooper - I have had a Buckeye Blackhawk for decades. It’s stupid nuts accurate, and especially loves silvertips.

I do love XDs but I’m going to use my blue line discount for this.

Anybody got pics to share? I’d especially like to see the holsters.

I’m not one of the “10mm faithful” nor am I a member of the cult.

That said I have shot my fair share and frankly I was SHOCKED at how much of a pussycat the Glock 29 was. I didn’t feel it had undue recoil at all. Quite the opposite.

A buddy of mine has a G29. I've shot it--incl. with full-power loads. It was tolerable, but not something I'd choose to do for fun.

My Kimber 1911 in 10mm, however, is pleasant too shoot

I have and carry a G20 Gen3 and G29SF (not at the same time ) when I'm out in the fields and woods and a bear encounter is a minimal possibility, or breaking down on backcountry roads at night is a bigger possibility. Both of mine are really easy to shoot and pretty accurate. The G29SF is a little snappier but I usually carry it with a G20 magazine and an X-Grip. That tames it to G20 levels. I usually carry Hornady 200gr XTPs. I've got TruGlo TFX Pro sights on both of these now. Good guns.

I carried a G20 for several years and then a G20 SF. At one time I had a two G20 SF, a G29, and a G40. None of them had too much felt recoil for me. I sold my Glocks.

My current handguns in 10mm are two Colt Delta Elites, a 7 1/2" Ruger Super Redhawk revolver, and a Springfield 1911 TRP Operator.

Sold a Glock 20 awhile back. It was fine for what it is. Recoil is not bad at all.
I bought a Mauser M2 in .40 and need to have the barrel reamed to 10mm.

I've experienced typical Glock flawless performance from a Gen 3 and a Gen 4 29 and from a Gen 4 40.

If recoil is an issue, I would recommend the long slide 40. It seems to stretch out or dampen the recoil impulse. One of my favorite handguns to shoot.

No brass to the forehead problem with these, although my Glock 19 is a real problem in that regard.

Gen 4 is a far better experience for the G20. It's a great woods gun. The double recoil spring makes heavy bear loads pleasent to shoot.

I've got the Glock 40 with a vortex red dot on it. So far, it's run like a champ and the red dot holds up as well. Diamond D chest rig with a spare mag and there isn't much on the woods outings I'd worry about.

That said, it's large and heavy. I tend to pack my Sig P220 10mm more often.

I have a G20SF with a KKM barrel as my fly fishing/backcountry gun. Like many others here, I carry it often in a Diamond D chest holster as well as kydex and leather OWB.
