P226 dim sights? Login/Join

This is my first post. I'm just coming back to my handguns after over 20 years away. I've been shooting trap and sporting clays instead. After taking my P226 (357sig) out of hibernation I noticed that the factory sights are completely dim. Since I've lost touch with what's out there, any suggestions as to replacements? Nothing too radical. Perhaps a more up-to-date version of the OEMs, but I'm certainly interested if there are some obvious upgrades to consider. In the meantime I will use the search function as well. TIA.

There's a much wider variety of options now than there was 20 yrs ago. For Tritium night sights, Trijicon, Ameriglo, TruGlo, and Night Fision are some reputable brands. For OEM, Siglites are more durable and brighter than X-ray3 sights, although X-ray3s have better daytime contrast between F&R.

I'm a big fan of fiber optic sights. My favorite FO brand is Dawson Precision. Some brands make combination Tritium & fiber optic sights, such as TruGlo TFX.

I've never done before, but I heard you can send NS out to a place to have them relamped w/ new Tritium vials.

If you want to keep cost done, you can post a WTB ad for sights in the Classifieds section.

Welcome back to the world of handguns!

A solid option is the Sig Sauer X-Ray3 sights, which are also an upgrade over the factory sights and are made specifically for your P226, but iron chef has good recommandations to.

Good luck with the search, and enjoy getting back into the groove!

You can first decide between night sights, fiber optic, painted dot sights, or just plain irons. I'm not a huge fan of adjustable sights on pistols, but that's also an option. You could also mix options across front/rear. Depending on use, I personally prefer front night/serrated rear or front fiber/serrated rear.

If you settle on night sights, I'd check with Sig if your sights could be renewed via their aforementioned service package. I've used the service package and highly recommend, especially due to value.

For fiber, I'd start with Dawson. For irons, probably just Sig.

Welcome back!

With the help of 12131 and others, I determined that my late 80's 226 night sights were Trijicon. And yes, earlier this year I returned the slide and they installed new vials at $57 for all 3 including return shipping. Great service! If you'd rather use one of many new colors and patterns that of course is different.

Thanks everyone. I've decided to go with the Sig Service Plan and Xray3 sights. My Sig is virtually new (100+ rounds?), but hasn't been fired in over 20 twenty years, so it likely needs a professional lubrication.

If I bought the same sights on Amazon ($100) and took them to my local gunsmith ($50) I'd be at the same $150 - without the SSP's included cleaning. The shipping cost (Sig charges $55 RT), on top of those costs, is cheap.
