What is a good way to store magazines for your pistols? I have one pistol (LOL) that I have multiple magazines for, Ruger MK .22s, 9mms, .40S&W, .45ACP. Right now, I'm storing them on a shelf, and the shelf is getting crowded. What do you guys use for storage?

Thanks!
Odin

I have just kept the extra mags in the pistol boxes and stack them up on the shelf or in a big storage box. I’m thinking of going the Plano fishing lure style case route though.

I went to harbor freight and bought a bunch of plastic ammo cans; large and small. I mark each one with a paint pen, listing the firearm model and caliber, and stack the magazines in there.

I try to maintain at least 10 magazines for each firearm; it helps to keep them in containers that are closed, so they don't spill, that are easily stacked, and easily identified.

Mine are stuck to magnetic knife-holder strips ($4 each at HF) that are mounted to the wall above my safe. Works great for everything but Glock mags and Pmags. Magnets are strong enough even for fully-loaded mags.

Loaded pistol mags are in a 3 drawer Craftsman tool box. Spare mags in a one or two plastic tool boxes. AR mags are all over that place. I really need to organize those. Other rifle mags are in the main safe.

I use these bins . Walmart sells them. I can fit 9 or so double stack 9mm, 10-12 single stack 32/38/9/40/45/22, or 6 extended 20/24 round 9mm double each in each draw.

I bought a scratch and dent multi drawer tool chest from Lowes. I got it cheap. Holds all my mags and some other to boot. Works for me.

I use Glock clamshell cases. They hold about 18 full sized double stack mags if you remove the foam and stack them 2 high.

I recently resorted to the ‘paint pen’ too, marking magazines.

I have a fair amount that look similar, as I go through them I started marking. Even just a simple model number, ‘365’, whatever. I went with yellow.

I'm a mag whore. I brought plastic shoe boxes on Amazon. Some are as thick as a shoe box, some are half as thick. So far, they're working great. Even for loaded mags.

Also, I recently saw a photo of the inside of a safe door where the owner put a shoe rack in the door. The inside of the door was all pouches. Each pouch held multiple mags.

Interesting, but who's got room for that? All my safes are so full, I have to take a running start and put my shoulder into it just to get the doors fully closed. Big Grin

Looks like I'm different than most. I have a soft side pistol bag for each handgun I own. The bags hold the pistol and 6-8 mags. When I get home, the loaded pistol goes in the safe and its designated bag with all it's spare mags (and anything else specific to that particular one) goes on the shelf beside the safe. I did find myself with too many 1911 mags so I got a double bag to hold them all.

An old rolling tool chest that I 'retired' from tool storage duty, and labeled plastic bins for the overflow.

And yet, I can completely sympathize. I started out with 2 16 gun safes. Then I took out the foam, and glued carpeting inside. Then the guns went into silicone socks so they could get crammed together. Then the handguns and takedowns found their way into a fireproof lateral drawer file cabinet. And I've still got about a dozen guns leaning along the wall outside the safes. Thankfully, a former owner built a 8X10 ft reinforced concrete block fallout shelter in my basement 60 some odd years ago, complete with ventilation. That's my gun room now.

And every time I walk out of a gun store, I have something new to add to the collection. Sometimes a gun or 2, sometimes just mags or ammo.

I have ten ruger 22/45 mags loaded and they are in the side of a pistol bag that ruger made...each mag has its own pouch with a Velcro flap to keep them from falling out https://www.midwayusa.com/prod...939160870?pid=146982

I have 8 loaded AR mags that are in a load bearing vest.

I have three loaded g19 mags, one in the gun, the other two are in a mag pouch in the door pocket of my truck

All other unloaded mags are in a 8x10 cardboard box on the shelf next to the safe. It’s full of mags for my other pistols and ten or more AR mags

Small plastic bins (ornament bins typically found around Christmas) labeled with manufacturer logo and firearm listing. Easily stackable, quickly identifiable, inexpensive.

I have in the past used a door hanging shoe holder and it works surprisingly well but can get heavy.

I mark all the magazines, mostly so I don't grab the wrong one. The mag states in big, white letters the pistol, and the caliber. Given that the Sig mags and HK mags and beretta mags, etc, all look similar but have different calibers, it's a lot easier to glance at the lettering and know.

It sucks to get to the range and have a pistol with one caliber, and a box of magazines of another. Especially when the match is about to start...
