I have to say I'm a SIG guy. Because of my company issuing Glocks, I have three of them, a G19, a G22, and a G23. Good guns, but I yearned for something better. Lo and behold, I found info on the Walther PDP. I purchased one and promptly hit the range. Stock, the ergonomics of this pistol was excellent: grip fit my hand, accuracy was excellent, and it was 9mm. I bought a non-standard (non Glock supplied) plate for an optic sight and mounted it to fit my Holosun 507k sight. This is a tack driver! While I can't carry it on duty, this is, by far, my off-duty choice. I also have Berettas, Kimbers, SA's, Ruger's. etc. If you have a chance to try one, do so (unless you don't want another pistol)!

I purchased a PDP 4 1/2" full size. I won't go into details but the gun got dropped on concrete ( I didn't drop it )and really screwed the slide up and I sold it Anyway I shot the PDP and loved it and yes I too am a Sig guy ( 3- custom P320's ) The PDP was a super gun to shoot, fab trigger, accurate looks good, it has everything. It won't take me away from my Sigs but it is part of the family once I get another. I did decide when I get another PDP it will be a Compact 4" with compact frame. the one thing I did notice about the PDP was it has a little more recoil than my 320's but not a massive difference, my PPQ was about the same. It's a good gun.

I have the 4" compact PDP. It is my best shooting gun. I have a Delta Point Pro on it and it's almost like cheating!

After having the 4 1/2 full size I held the 4" compact and that's what I'm going to get it seems to me it feels more balanced than the 4 1/2. I haven't decided whether to get the red dot yet. I have 4 Sig 320's 3- I customized and have not purchased a red dot yet 3 of the 320's are optics ready so one of these days I'll do at least one to see how it is but I will never get red dots for all my guns, the darn RD's are like buying anther gun, I think I'm waiting for the prices to drop LOL ain't going to happen anyway soon. Did the red dot improve your accuracy?

I've got a 5". It shoots pretty well. Decent trigger. It's a little lighter than I like overall, so it's no wonder the brass backstraps seem popular. Using Glock pattern sights is smart.

I'm not sure this was meant for me, but yes, it improved my accuracy a great deal! But then again, my eyesight is not what it used to be.

Sorry for not quoting you, it was for you. I've pondered the red dots for some time because like you, my eyes are no where as good as they once were. but I read so many accounts regarding red dots being so fragile or difficult to use etc. etc. that it's put me on hold. there seems to be a lot of "moving parts" to red dots. meaning lots of things going on with them, it's difficult for me to land on one without reading there's something else to take into consideration. Steel sights are simple, you get the one that looks good to you and get it and they last about as long as the gun lasts, not so with the red dot. Although if the red dot is that much better for tired eyes they will be in the future for me.

The PDP is an excellent pistol. I have the 4” and the 4.5” both with Holosun green dots. Walther makes very fine pistols. I enjoy their P5s, P88, p99 and the PPQs. The PDP, though not with the great looks of its predecessors, is the culmination of the best of all of them.

You might be gone so you won’t read this but there literally are no moving parts to a red dot. I don’t know where you heard they are fragile. You can take an Aimpoint and drop it attached to a rifle from a helo and it maintained zero. Marketing? Of course but good marketing. Lol. I only buy quality optics and none of my dots, whether on a rifle or pistol, has ever even lost zero or failed in any way. I own enough that the odds say it will happen but they are fairly bulletproof proof at this point. Can you shatter glass? Yes, but that didn’t seem to be the question. As for accuracy my personal experience is that there isn’t a single time where an optic won’t improve accuracy. Across the board accuracy is enhanced. It’s just physiology. 3 focal planes down to 1. Of course you will be more accurate. Maybe slower maybe faster depending on how you train but always more accurate.

I own 3 Walther PDP's all with optics. I had a Walther drop-in trigger installed and steel or tungsten guide rods. Particularly like the grips and the ergonomics. You don't really need the steel drop-in trigger but I really like it. Optics are good for old guys. If you use a light it can wash out the light or make it hard to pick-up. Guess it proves there is no free lunch. In opinion, if I'm shooting past 15 yds. the optics really help your groups. But, if you are under stress, breathing heavy and trying to approx. what happens in a shooting, unless you practice with the optic, I'm not sure how much it helps. In an emergency, I think you have to have confidence in the gun and I do with a few guns including the Walther. I still have a moments hesitation when finding the dot and making the shot. At close range, I prefer not having the dot if my life is on the line. But, that's about me, what I'm used to, and practice time.

My Holosun complements my iron sights. I have my PDP sighted in (close range) with the factory sights. The Holosun is sighted in for longer distances. It's very easy to pick up the sights through the Holosun. In my opinion, it is the perfect match!

I've got a Holosun optic on my PDP Compact/Compact and installed a Overwatch Precision trigger. It's a very good shooting pistol and has so far proven to be perfectly functioning with variety of ammo. Great CCW choice when I'm not "going small" with my P365X. That is a good looking gun. If I had any desire to add guns to my list I would have to try one of those.

You don’t need to use the sights as an alternate charging artifice should you be partially disabled. Those cocking serrations will do the trick. The grip is also quite gnarly ______________________________________________ Life is short. It’s shorter with the wrong gun…
