Larry GeeNew and Clueless
I've started culling some of my handguns and was on the data base list of serial numbers trying to figure out exactly what I have.
My question is, why do none of my Sigs have and letters AFTER the last number? It seems like every firearm listed in the database has a letter after it.
For Example - I have a Sig W. German P225 whose serial number is M649-0XX . There is no letter(s) after it.
Is there any significance to the letter or is it just something poster put there for personal identification purposes?
Also have a Sig W. German P 228 B218-0XX and a Sig W. German P226 U457-4XX. No letters.
Thanks in advance.

Larry GeeApologies for the similar posts. Apparently I am also clueless on how to edit and delete posts!

sigmonkeyOn the lower right of anything you post is the "edit" icon. Click on it.
You will see the post open an edit screen. If it is the first post of your thread, you can edit the subject line/title, and you can edit the content of any post you make.
There is a time limit on how long you can go back and delete a post, that option will be at the bottom right of the edit screen until that time is past.
Once anyone has commented, you cannot delete the first post.
The "triangle" with the ! is to report an issue regarding the thread or any post.
In this case, you can click on that and "report" you want the thread deleted or closed (to further replies), and it usually will go away shortly.

bigpond73Welcome to the forum Larry!
I think what you are looking at is the date code for that particular firearm. Some show as numbers, others as letters.
From member Udos post:
"If you wish to have your gun(s) included please post the information in the format you see it presented in the list, example:
G 109-5XX-HH-1977-45acp-Hawes
Serial number, date code, year, if each is present, then any pertinent information like import markings or a description of the pistol."
Hope that helps.
