I have a P229R in 9mm and I'm wondering if a P228 slide in 9mm will fit directly on. They're easier to find and I just want an extra since the one on the weapon right now has suppressor sights and a threaded barrel.

Should slide right on if 9mm 229, if a .40/.357 locking insert may need to be changed.

You will need to use the 228 locking insert if you have a 229-1.

How do I know if it's a P229-1? It has a rail.

I have a FrankenSig made from a P228 parr’s kit and a P229 frame that was originally a .40 Caliber gun. Swapped the locking insert and assembled as normal. With P229-1 mags it shoots like a dream.

Is there a difference in the frames for .40 and 9mm?

Current 229 (9) frame is identical to the .40/.357 frame.
Previous 229 (9) frame is same as the P228, which has the slightly smaller magwell than the one above..
