The quickest way to tell the 320 x compact from the compact is the xcompact has a straight trigger. There are other things as well but not as obvious from pictures.
The "X" designation originated with the older P220/P226 X5 and X6 models originally offered by the Mastershop as semi-custom competition guns with hand-fitted barrels (and often other stuff geared towards competition like muzzle weights and optic bridges).
Now the X-prefix seems to have been watered down to just be a marketing tag used to denote factory models that have slightly fancier options than the base models, like straight triggers, different grips, and optics cuts.
Unlike the P320 X-Carry that is a true P320 Carry model, the P320 X-Compact is special in that it's not a true P320 Compact... It sports the 3.6" barrel and correspondingly shorter slide borrowed from the P320 Subcompact model.
So the X-Compact is a Subcompact slide/barrel on a Compact length grip, similar to how the P320 Carry and X-Carry are set up as a Compact slide/barrel with a Full-Size length grip.

The shorter subcompact length slide/barrel and boxier grip module are pretty noticeable differences too. Those stand out more than the straight trigger to me.
I found the darn X, but am still at a loss for the plane wave solutions.
