ScotP7HK SP5 Brace
All,
I know there have been threads on this, but I am not sure I have understood them.
I am looking to brace my 8” HK SP5 pistol. I think SB braces are most recommended.
Which / what is easiest to “plug and play”?
Other general advice appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

hrcjonThe best of the available choices is the B&T telescopic brace which works on the principles of the factory a3 stock. I tried the various other options and they all work but mostly are deficient to the B&T. I think all of them designed for the SP5 are plug and play. The most I've had to do was ream the holes so the pins went in easier. The buffer situation isn't always to my liking on some of them and I've swapped those as well, but that's mostly personal preference.
But as I often note the pistol brace seems likely to end sooner rather than later so the big price difference between ok and great might be something to think about.

GT-40DOCA number of folks have been pleased with the Safety Harbor sliding unit with a Tailhook brace. I understand that these units are in short supply/high demand right now.

Thank you.
Will look that up.

I have seen that recommended.
Two questions from your post:
1) In regard to braces going away, if you were going to just SBR it, what stock would you recommend?
2) If I ordered this below (seems always back ordered) what other pieces would I need to order / obtain?
BT-200602 - B&T Brace Telescopic for HK MP5K SP5K (US Version)
Thanks much.

monoblokI ordered the B&T telescoping brace assembly for my SP5 a couple of weeks ago from B&T. I wish I could say how great it was but B&T was unfortunately optimistic on how many units they actually had on hand for immediate ordering and shipping. So now I'm patiently waiting another "2 to 4 weeks" before they'll be able to fulfill my order. Oh well.
I went with the B&T once kind members of the forum confirmed that my brace of choice--the Gearhead Works Tailhook--would fit on the end of the B&T unit. I've used the Tailhook on a couple of pistol builds and subgun setups now, including my SP5K-PDW. I like that it's aluminum, is minimalist in appearance and doesn't involve any silliness with Velcro. And although the ATF has gotten all whiney and about-faced over braces of late, the Tailhook concept supposedly was one of few brace designs that the agency actually gave its blessing to.
So now I have a Tailhook Mod 1; all I need is B&T to get the telescoping unit in and sent out to actually complete the kit.

So how does the Gearhead Works Tailhook attach to the SP5 and to the B&T brace?

hrcjonThe B&T brace replaces the rear cap on the SP5 and the Tailhook slides over the circular end fitting on the B&T and tightens with two screws.
To your other question above if I was going to SBR it I would just get the HK A3. But that's silly expensive so plan b would be the B&T sliding stock. B&T thankfully sells the parts to convert from the brace to the stock. I haven't fully worked through mentally the engraving on my HK, no issues with my clones.
Just to be clear there are two versions of the B&T one for SP5 and MP5 clones and one for SP5K (the difference being that those two have different endcaps). The B&T part number you listed is the K version.

Oh! I missed that I was zoning in on the k. Thank you.
