I will throw in a SRT kit, but what else can I do here? Grips are stock. Sights are Trijicon Bright and Toughs. I'm a pretty competent pistol shooter and have a lot of SIGs, all of which are way more accurate, even the ones with stiffer triggers. I think this gun has a low round count, I've had it about six yrs. I want to love it, but I just like it. How to make it more accurate?

What are the symptoms of it being not accurate?

What 94hokie said - how is the inaccuracy manifesting itself?, plus - what ammo have you run through it? how many types/brands?

I'm thought I was having to compensate, aim right to make it hit center. But where the bullet lands is inconsistent and not in just one direction. I have ice in my veins and zero flinch. I can deal with a front or rear sight needing some windage adjustment. I should have brought some targets home with me to post photos. It almost feels like the barrel isn't locking up consistently or that there's play somewhere.

I always shoot 124gr, various brands, but always FMJ stuff. I think last few range visits Prvi Partizan. But no matter. I use the same ammo in all my other 9mm pistols and they are tack drivers. I have three P365s, a P226 and two Poly 80s, all in 9mm and they are tack drivers.

Is the crown ok? No damage?

You haven’t said what distance you’re shooting at and what is the POA/POI difference. One of your posts has some words missing but it sounds like you have to compensate to the right. If you changed the sights, I’d look at them. But the first step is always to eliminate the most likely cause: the shooter.

Yes, you shoot others fine and you have ice in your veins, but still find another competent shooter to verify it is the pistol. Preferably bench it to minimize shooter impact.

If it is the pistol, an SRT isn’t going to change anything. As the name indicates, it shortens the reset. Regardless, triggers don’t have anything to do with the pistols accuracy. Great triggers are just crutches to hide lacking fundamentals. What the problem is, no way for us to really tell. cslinger already asked about damage to the crown. You indicated your suspicion is lock up; any burs or anything? Can you move the barrel separate from the slide? Then there’s the chamber and bore. Is the breech block securely pinned? There’s only so many parts that really interplay to affect mechanical accuracy.

If you get the same results with another good shooter, I’d suggest contacting SIG to see what it would cost for them to look at it.

This might be way off, but is it all original, as in matching triple serial #s? I've heard of some, not many, FrankenSigs to be less accurate.

Sorry I haven't checked in. I will look closely and get some photos when I clean the gun later tonight or tomorrow.

I was shooting at 30' and indoors. I was just shooting paper plates with 2" reactive target decals on them.

I had accuracy problems with my brand new P228 shooting to the left. It turned out not to be me, but the sights were indeed off. I resighted it, and problem solved.

I seem to remember a lot of 228s leaving the factory with this problem, not sure why.

You could let a buddy whom you know shoots as well as you, shoot it using the same ammo and see what the results are. The same (not accurate), or other (accurate).

Depending on how you define accuracy at whatever distance you normally shoot.

I have some loads with 124gr .357 bullets that I loaded to improve accuracy (just for my 92fs & P228). I'm sure there'll be moans and groans about this, but my group size at 25yds was basically cut in half.

Make sure your bore is clean & free from all copper. It takes a while, even using one of those copper fouling removers. I've bought used guns I thought would never clean up.

maybe I missed but - what happens when another person shoots it?

Same results?

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I haven't had anyone else shoot it with me, or at least no one I consider a great shooter (Mrs. Lee, for example. I love her very much though.

Is the rifling at the muzzle worn from improper cleaning?

Sorry it took so long for me to get these photos.

Not really sure what I'm looking for, but to my untrained eyes, everything looks normal. Rifling looks totally normal.

Do you know if that is a factory nickel? I see a bit of uneven wear on the barrel extension hood where it would lock into the breech block. That’s your second to last pic, lower left corner. But it may be perfectly normal.

If it’s not factory nickel, what did who do to it?

Are the iron sights in alignment and not off to one side, particularly the rear sight? Can you provide photos of the sights from the top of the slide?

Aside from checking the alignment of the sights, I agree that benching the gun and shooting slowly from a rest would be beneficial, as would trying some different ammo, perhaps some quality Federal or Hornady? 5-round increments would give you good feedback.

Beautiful P228, BTW.

If you send it to me, I'll be glad to evaluate it for you. :-) It might take me a few years, but I'd get back to you eventually.

With the joking out of the way, I have yet to see any Sig Sauer 9mm duty pistol that will shoot less than three-inch groups at 25 yards with quality factory ammunition from a bench rest. It you post some photos of some targets, that might help us help you get to the bottom of it.
