^^^^^I just saw that MAC posted the vid just the other day. Been waiting a long time for him to review it. And the fact that he loved it made me love mine more. Funny that it has been out quite a while now though there are quite a few recent (last couple years) video reviews on them. Nice to see they are still around, even if only in small numbers. One of my two is also a KH like MAC’s though I don’t have a suppressor. It’s a great gun and I’m glad I got mine despite the high cost of them. They are absolute tanks and are every bit as pinpoint accurate as they are behemothly statutred.

The real question is whether it would pas MAC’s “Gauntlet test” or not?

I would hope so though the last battery of tests are pretty rough and unrealistic. I believe only the Arex Rex zero made it though so far.

Well Went to several gunshops with the wife today. Looked at a fair number of guns. I came home with nothing, the wife came home with two sun dresses and a pair of beige flats.

Results on the pistol purchase when it gets here next week.

The H&K USP Elite is more comparable to the P210 than a Mk23. A favorite among my H&Ks.

Easy choice for me since I have little kid hands: P210A. Even if I didn't have such puny paws, the HK is just cartoonish big to me.

A little teaser. The 2013 mk23 comes later this morning. Right now here are some shots of my 95 USP 40 with over 50k through it. My 01 hk USP 45, and 2014 Usp9 tac.

Enjoy.
1995 USP 40

The 2001 HK USP 45

2014 Usp tactical 9mm

I am headed to the indoor range later today to give my new to me mk23 a rund through. I scrounged up every bit of old nasty stale squished HP ammo i could find. We shall see if it can truly eat anything. I will have pictures of that and the range sessions later.

So today was the day! Fedex lied as far as its arival time. They said 10:00 to 11:30. It showed up at 2pm. Two PM is well into my nap time. So Quad Venti mocha and 2 cheeze burger later i head to the range. I went to the indoor today as it was 100000% humidity and 3 inches of mud at my out door range. I took my USP Tac9, Usp 40, USP 45, and the MK23.

Now, you have seen the other guns above. I took 150 rounds of 9mm, 200 rounds of 40S&W, 1k of 45acp boxes 84 rounds of old HP ammo. The HP ammo is the old chambered stuff that has the bullet shoved 9/10ths of the way into the case.

I made it through 150 rounds of 9mm, 200 rounds of 40S&W, 800 rounds or 45acp + the HP ammo. 200 of those rounds were fired in the HK USP 45, The other 684 were fired in the MK23. I wore my damn trigger finger out.

My course of fire today, after quad venti mocha. (caffeine high here) Was USP tac 9, usp 40, usp 45, mk23. Up first was USPtac9.
Here is its target at 25ft, 50 rounds. Present, remove safety, aim, double action fire, single action fire, decock, safety. Rinse repeat for 50 rounds. On ultra high caffeine jitters.

Here is the first and second targets from the USP 40. I used the same course of fire. Present, remove safety, aim, double action fire, single action fire, decock, safety. Rinse repeat for 50 rounds. With this first target, you can see I was a bit more skittery with the jitters.

I calmed down for this second USP 40 target.

The USP 45 is a big gun all by its self. It makes bigger holes. Here is its target at 25ft using the same methods as above.

Here is the USP 40 (left), Usp 45 (center), MK23 (right).

Here is one of my MK 23 groups using the same methods as above. By this time I am well into 600-700 rounds for the day. I was getting pretty tired.

I did have one failure in the MK23 today. GASP! I know. It was with Federal White box Range Target Practice. It is kinda a new ammo type for me. Not something I typically pick up for 45acp.

The round in question. Clearly, it is not the guns fault. It is pointedly a failure of the ammo. You can see the federal box just out of focus.

Now the MK 23 came with 6 12 round mags. I wanted to test them all to be sure they functioned. So, I would load 10 rounds in each, shoot all 6 mags and reload. I had 8 different types and manufactures of 45acp ball ammo. Tula, Wolf, Federal white box RTP, Federal aluminum, S&B, Speer Lawman, CCI Blazer, CCI aluminum, and Federal poly coated lipstick rounds. The pistol fired everything today. It just ate everything that could be fired.

In loading 6 mags, firing da/sa decock, rinse repeat the gun built up some heat. So running thumbs forward the slide stop was pretty hot by the end of 684 rounds. I had to consciously keep my thumb under it.

Here are some of the hollow points and old nasty ammo I shot. The last two mags were topped off from speer law man IIRC. It ate everything just fine. Though you could definately tell which ammo had had the bullet seated way back into the case.

This is the last 84 rounds of random well seated hollowpoints, and speer lawman. About 134 rounds. This one I just let loose and went as fast as I could.

Grouse ... I think you went in the right direction! Good luck with the Mk23. It is the softest shooting 45 I have ever fired. Glad to see you are still at it. I assume you are not missing CT (weather and liberals) too much!

It is definitely soft and slow. Not really slow follow up shot wise. It just seems like it takes a noticeably longer than the USP45 to cycle. It is a rare enough bird that I thought I better get it now before the prices skyrocket. I do want to pick up a KAC sup for it. It was pretty amazing shooting it next to my USP 40 and USP 45. The 40 has so many more rounds through it, and the trigger is so broken in that it seemed like second nature. The USP 45 is a bit newer, and not nearly as many rounds through it. It was not as snappy as the 40, nor was it as intuitive. The USP9 Tac, I thought would be a closer match to the MK23. Other than grip, and magazine feel. I thought there were fewer similarities than the usp 40 and 45. It's trigger DA is better than the mk23, and not as good SA. It's sights are as good as the MK23, but different in shape. The trigger (blade) on the MK23 is much nicer. Even though it is ribbed, it is wider with less sprue on it. It agravates my finger only after 600 rounds. Where as the USP Tac 9 has just that little edge of sprue that drives me nuts.

I am seriously considering talking to the sig armorer and seeing what Robert can do with the DA SA trigger pulls on the 4 guns. I simply shoot these guns far easier than most. I was pretty amped up yesterday. The mocha and soda did not help. I had not fired into targets like that in a good long while 8-9 months IIRC. I plan on doing more of that type of shooting here at my house at my home range.

As for the weather, well it has been raining every afternoon, or every other afternoon for 3 weeks. The yard is infested with weeds, and my mower is leaving 4" deep ruts. Walking out to the range over the past weeks I have pulled off a total of 9 ticks off me because I can not spray. The spray needs to be dry for 24 hours. It has been so humid that my glasses have been fogging up as I walk outside our front door. CT was a lovely state, I really enjoyed living there. We made some awesome lifelong friends. My biggest complaint is that to live there (Norwalk/Stamford) one must pursue the NY Work till you die methodology. My kids were about to enter middle school, then Highschool. I did not want my wife to have missed that time as a regret. I urged her to make the move, Richmond was the best candidate at the time. We love it here. I have our own range, 26 acres, i can hunt every year. We raise our own meat, we often have no greater desire than to be on our property all weekend. Yes, we are happy here, No I did not hate CT, and I do miss it and our friends still there. Speaking of which. You would love it down here.

Great choice, although you couldn't go wrong either way. The MK23 is on my grail list. There is just something about them.
