Just to mess with folks I brought a 1911 to the “off duty/backup” Qual…. Nope. Not a 1911A1. A 1911. Or at least a copy. The really very nice Cimarron 1911 clone. I bought it off GB thinking (poor photos) it was the high polish blue finish. Turns out it was nickel finish. Disappointed, but for $400 delivered and transferred, I shut my mouth. And then a funny thing happened…. Kept looking at the shiny shiny shine. And then fount the Adams pewter grips. And then…. BBQ gun! Best of all, this has a very nice trigger right out of the box, and skinny little OG sights and all, it shoots nice. And at a Qual, it makes Admin cringe. What’s not to love? Bill R

That’s fantastic. Love this story. I could see how it would grow on you especially after you found those grips.

Are you sure that's nickel? It looks like chrome. Be careful about hydrogen embrittlement, which can lead to structural failure, especially if they've treated internals with that same finish.

Nice BBQ pistol Enjoy the ribs. Great that it shoots for you as well. Good old JMB was pure genius. Couple of decades ago one member of our defensive shooting group bought an Argentinian Mil surplus 1911. Brought it in for our weekly shoot. I was standing next to him. From the holster, he was getting 1-2" groups at seven yards. Bone stock, standard GI safety, crappy little sights. Long live JMB! ______________________ An expert is one who knows more and more about less and less until he knows absolutely everything about nothing. --Nicholas Murray Butler

Love it! Years ago (lots of them!) I picked up a factory nickel Colt 1911 from a pawn shop in Miami for $75. Another one I shouldn’t have let go… ***** Today, my jurisdiction ends here…

Holy smokes! That qualifies as bling alright. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." That is beautiful. I think it needs an elegant yet not overstated holster, belt and mag pouches to set it off. Something in a very subtley grained exotic black leather without 3D relief carving or contrast stitching. ____________________

I am thinking of hitting up the El Paso Saddlery website for some carved leather to haul it around. Bill R
