Savor the limelight
| Shot my new PC M&P 40 Shield M2.0 today along with my P239 SAS.
It is snappy, especially with the 6 round magazine which only allows two of my fingers on the grip. I much prefer the 7 round magazine. The trigger is fairly light; I pulled right through the wall quite a few times. Swapping back and forth with the P239 and its DAK trigger probably has something to do with that. The shield’s fiber optic sights are so much easier to see and the green front with red rears was nice on a dark target. It’s time to replace my P239’s night sights, they’re barely visible at night, they must be around 15 years old now. I seem to recall being able to see the orange front and green rears during the day.
Comparing the two side by side, the P239 is a chunky monkey. I put a Houge rubber grip on it within the first six months of ownership. The two guns are about the same height with their 7 round magazines and about the same length because the PC M&P 40 Shield M2.0 has a 4” barrel. The shield is at least a 1/4” slimmer every where. Probably more in the grip which I’m sure would be easier to conceal and to carry IWB. It weighs noticeably less as well.
Shooting at what I believe is called a 12”x20” silhouette (11 1/2”x16” body with a 4”x4” head) steel target, I shot well. I missed all 8 at 20 yards with my P239, but hit 7 of 8 with the Shield. Then I remembered, the sights on my P239 are wrong; the front sight is too tall. I hit 6 out of 8 with the P239 by aiming higher. With the shield I just centered the front sight on the target. After doing that with the P239 and missing, I centered its front sight on the target left and right, but aimed just below the head which worked each time I shot it from that point. I only had 100 rounds and split them 60/40 between the Shield and P239. As luck would have it with the Shield’s 6 and 7 round magazines and the P239’s 7 round one, I had 1 round left at the end. I walked as far back as I could without falling into the river, about 40 yards from the target and with my son and his friend watching, I hit the target. “One shot, one kill son.” He laughed.
Overall, it was a good deal for $330 plus tax and $25 FFL transfer fee.
Tomorrow the boys and I will work on the 1,000 rounds of 9mm that got delivered on Thursday using our new Beretta APX A1 Compacts. They were $340 plus tax and two $25 FFL transfer fees, but also included two $150 rebates I spent at the Beretta Store while getting 35% off for their Memorial Day Sale. I bought 8-17 round mags, two each of all the springs, two RMR pattern optics mounts, two left handed holsters, and a couple other things I can’t remember. With the two rebates and the sale, I spent around $40. |
