Folks that complain about the recoil of a P365, Hellcat, Glock 43x, etc. will get an attitude adjustment by running a cylinder or two of .357s through a J-Frame. Ha! Many years ago I was at a range shooting. In the next bay to my left I would hear BANG “sonofabitch!” BANG!! “God dammit!” BANG!! “Shit!” And so on. I finally lean over and ask if he’s ok. He proceeds to tell me that the Kahr PM9 he was shooting is just a pain in the ass to shoot. I smiled and politely said “yeah it’s a little guy isn’t it. “ So I went back to shooting. Well I had brought a Smith J Frame in .357 and was running some defensive .357 magnum ammo that day. So I load up and BOOOOOM!!!! BOOMBOOMBOOOMBOOM!!!! Flame shooting out Ride of the Valkyries playing in my head, you know your basic J Frame .357 Maggie. Well after that the dude to my left just leans over to my bay and says so very sincerely. “Ok I’ll stop being a pussy now.” Cracks me up to this day. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

Haven't tried any of the newer micros except the p365. As I have started carrying the pm9 with some regularity, I have taken it to the range several times to practice with it. It does need a firm grip, but if you do your part it is not unpleasant to shoot. Anyone who thinks the recoil on these micros is too stout needs to shoot some rounds through a 44mag. It recalibrates the recoil-o-meter.

A friend has a fancy 365 build with all custom parts and aluminum frame, optic and compensator. Think he spent like $2k all in on it. Recoil was STOUT....snappy lol. Hard to keep rounds on target. I handed him my $400 Tanfoglio Witness Match with Henning straight trigger and it was a laserbeam by comparison. And no, his 365 is a range toy, not a carry gun. So, why?

All my 365’s wear Wilson Combat modules. I think they, especially the X grips, are quite easy to shoot. I have 2 of the comped models. Hard to believe it is a stout shooter. I like the comp, side by side you do notice the difference. Would I pay much for the difference? Honestly no.

Found the pics I took. Maybe it was just the super aggressive checkering. It wasn't fun to shoot.

I asked my wife if she would like to shoot my .357 a number of years back. She asked me if it kicked. I said not really. She fired one shot and handed it back to me and said "YOU SON OF A BITCH". I can't think of too many things in life that say "GET THE HELL OFF OF ME" better than a J-frame .357 in someone's rib cage. Every time I hear the term or read it in a gun forum I chuckle, and think folks need to either buy a bigger gun, shoot a smaller caliber they can handle, or accept the physics involved with what is likely a small handgun.
