I add a grip plug to help with reloads. ________________ People hate you. Train like it.

Everything on my Glocks is OEM except the red dot and steel, plain black backup sights. I have the Glock Performance Trigger in most of them, but it’s a factory upgrade that’s designed by the manufacturer.

The only thing a stock Glock arguably needs is a decent set of sights to replace the dovetail protectors. Other than that as I read many years ago BA/UU/R. Buy ammo, use up, repeat. Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

Steel sights and grip wrap is my recommendation. I put the Timney trigger in mine, but part of me thinks I should just go back to stock and get a smooth trigger shoe. I didn’t like the ribbed-for-her-pleasure shoe on my Gen 3 26. I did put a grip plug in mine as well. ...Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, was just a freight train coming your way...

What would you recommend on a Gen4 G19? Other than a decent holster, extra mags & plenty of range time. Brother in law's dept is moving to G17 & might snag his 19 when he's ready to move on from it. The Enemy's gate is down.

The reason I asked is because all generations of the G19 before the gen5 have that annoying "target" trigger that Glock put on the pistol for importation points. If he had said anything but gen5 I would have recommended putting a G17 trigger in the pistol. Aside from that, if you've never before shot a G19 , my recommendation remains the same- steel sights and perhaps some sort of traction applique on the grip. If you have shot a G19 before, I'd also recommend a Streamlight TLR-7X, which is the current generation of that WML. I own five G19s and the only reason that the TLR-7 is not on all of them is because one of then is a gen2, which has no rail. The other four are so equipped- two are 7A, two are 7X. The 7X, which takes a 16340 rechargeable battery, is noticeably brighter than when using CR123 disposable batteries, which is all the 7A will accept. jljones suggestion of a grip plug in order to aid with smooth reloads sounds right, but I am not as high a speed operator as I might be, so I can't say for sure. Sounds right, though. If you're training to be as fast as possible on reloads, invest the 15 or 20 dollars for a plug.

Something to ALWAYS bear in mind: Any modification, regardless of how seemingly innocuous, can result in decreased reliability. If the gun functions leave it alone is my suggestion. I got a gen 5 19 as a prize at a shooting match, and it is my nightstand gun. I didn’t even change the plastic sights! Regarding night sights, I have discovered once you use white light to ID a target ( a must in a low light defensive environment) the white light overwhelms the tritium dots and the sights look plain black anyway- however the white dot on the plastic OEM sight is still visible.

Thanks Para, I've a bit of range time with a few G19s, mostly Gen4s I think. Didn't know that about the triggers. I'll have to find some range time with it before committing to it.This message has been edited. Last edited by: P250UA5, The Enemy's gate is down.

I agree with you completely. However, I’m lucky to have top notch gunsmith five miles from my home. Any modifications he makes will work. I have dealing with him for over 20 years. He takes everything to range to test it. He’s a retired cop and understands from real world experience what is needed. He’ll advise customers when something is bogus.

1. Glock performance Trigger 2. Replace connector in above trigger with a Ghost Edge 3.5 3. XS sights. Get a decent sight pusher. 4. Magwell 5. Extended takedown lever 6. Some decent grip tape. Like the hockey stick kind. No need for sandpaper like grip panels. Test and test again before carrying. YMMV

I wouldn't recommend the GPT for a new Glock owner. I think it's important for new Glock shooters to become familiar with the standard Glock trigger pull before moving on to any other configuration. It takes some time to understand and master the Glock trigger, and brushing past it to immediately install a performance part with different characteristics to the trigger pull is, to me, not a good idea. The GPT has a bit of a quirk to it, and according to the manufacturer, the GPT has specific lubrication requirements which people may find surprising. https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...260000515#5260000515 Don't get me wrong. I like the GPT a lot and have this trigger in four of my Glocks- two of the original version and two of the current version, but I think for new Glock shooters, it might be advisable to ease into Glock's racing trigger.

Para, interesting info on the GPT lubrication, thank you for pointing that out.

Take the time to find your limits with the relatively stock pistol. It's always impressive watching someone shoot a clean sub 2 second bill drill with a bone stock Glock from a duty holster. Glocks can be shot extremely well right out of the box.
I believe grip tape can be as important as a good set of sights. Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." -- George Orwell

What I do: - Trijicon HD XR sights - LTT SCD - Grip plug - 25 cent trigger job - My own grip/trigger guard shaping and stippling - Shoot it a lot

All my Glock's eventually get upgraded triggers and sights. Mostly either Apex and Overwatch Triggers and bars with a little "massaging". I used to spend money getting Trijicon but now I've leaned more towards Ameriglo's which I can get cheaper. Since I mostly used Pistol Mounted Optics, iron sights are less and less important for me i.e. I don't spend big money on them but I still practice shooting with irons. And lastly, I tend to get some frame work done to my Glocks, both for function and comfort. Trigger undercut so I can get a slightly higher grip and also I'll get some stippling/texturing down on the "gas pedal" to help me with control of the gun when shooting.

Steel sights. I really like the Trijicon HD. Other than that the only upgrade I routinely do is to replace the factory mag catch with the Vickers Tactical. Purely a personal preference. But a case of ammo and run it through the gun. Then you’ll know what needs changing, if anything.
