bee boopboop {brrrrrrrrrrrrrr} {click} 911, what is your emergency? Uh. Yeah. I'm down here to the firin' range. And there's this fella what's got this little bitty gun, and ever time he shoots it, he screams and takes the Lord's name in vain. I- I think he might be a Democrat. OK, sir, do not approach him. We're sending someone now. All units, all units... I've tried. Really, I have. I have this habit of finishing up range sessions with running a magazine or cylinder-full through backup guns. For the time being I've stopped taking my 638 to the range, since .38 Special ammunition now seems to be made from 14 karat gold. I finish off with my G42 or G43, maybe my S&W 351C. Damn nice revolver, that. I've got an NAA Black Widow and a Pug, both in 22 Magnum. The Black Widow is not unpleasant to shoot. However, if you've ever touched off a few rounds in these little revolvers, you know that the 22 Magnum is not to be discounted. Hell, at close range, the muzzle blast and fireball alone would be enough to inflict substantial bodily harm on a shootee. The grip on the Black Widow is surprisingly hand-filling. Sometimes I would see pics or videos of people with this oversized grip on a standard NAA revolver, or a Pug and I would think to myself, well, that defeats the purpose of the tiniest of these revolvers. The first time I shot my Pug, I knew that acquiring a proper grip would be a problem. This little Hogue slip-on grip is actually larger than the standard panels on these little revolvers, but try as I might, I just can't bear down enough to keep the Pug from hurting me. As I said, if you've not fired 22 Magnum in one of these little things, you would be surprised at the blast and the recoil. Here's 22 Magnum out of a Ruger LCR with a 1.87 inch barrel. The barrel of the Pug is one inch. I'd like to shoot it outside at night some time. Who needs fireworks when you've got one of these things? The damn thing jumps in my hand so badly, that sharp edge on the back of the cylinder barks the hide off of my thumb. It's quite painful, and it's flinch-inducing. If I wasn't careful, I might have ended up putting a round into the ceiling of the range. So, even though the Hogue slip-on looks great on this revolver, it now wears a Black Widow grip, which makes it essentially a Black Widow with a one inch barrel, instead of two inches. It's still a tiny gun, and now I can actually shoot it without screaming.

The first time I shot .22 magnum many many years ago I just assumed it would be like a hot mini mag or velocitior or something akin to that. I was shocked at how much more “juice” noise and recoil it had (not that it’s some huge amount of recoil but it’s quite a bit more than .22LR especially when your brain is thinking .22LR) .22 magnum out of those itty bitty NAA guns is no joke. The CVang grips made a huge difference on my NAA Pug. They made it a bit bigger, but still easily pocketable, especially since they're not sticky like the original rubber grips.

My only experience with .22 Mag is out of a stainless single-six convertible with 5.5" barrel. It's a big heavy gun with a full grip and substantial barrel length for the powder to burn...but even with that gun if you go into it expecting it to feel like spiced up.22LR, you're gonna get a surprise. I've shot those little NAA revolvers in .22LR before, and they are indeed hard to get a grip on. I imagine the larger grip is a very welcome and functional addition on your Magnum!

I know this is hard to believe but my father bought me a single action revolver in 22mag for my birthday when I was about 7 or 8 and I carried it in a holster on the farm for about 3 or 4 weeks before it disappeared.... seems my mother and grandmother put both their feet down when some yankee who had stopped at our peach stand on the way to Aiken admired my 'cap pistol' and I proceeded to show him it was not a cap pistol by firing a round off... he did hurry back to his car to get to Aiken just 15 miles away to probably change his shorts.... I can't imagine shooting 22mag in a 1" barrel. My Native American Name: "Runs with Scissors"

Have you tried that specific short barrel ammo out of it yet?

My new Switch is very manageable when tested with Federal Punch, but it’s still no slouch. It fits in the short tool pocket of my Bib overalls. https://stdgun.com/switch-gun-...on-folding-revolver/

I sold the Pug after just two range visits. It's SO danged small, I had more concern about getting a finger or hand in front of it somehow. However, the little BUGger does fill a niche, for sure.

I like the .22 lr version but the magnum round in that little gun hurts.

That's what I'm using exclusively- the Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel. If I'm not mistaken, the idea of Speer's Short Barrel line of ammunition is not about reducing recoil; it's about a faster burning powder that reaches peak pressure faster. But, no matter which round you choose, the 22 Magnum is really designed for rifle-length barrels, and out of pistol-length barrels, you're going to get a fireball at the muzzle. Not with the right grips.

Yep, designed to burn fast in the 1" barrel. I've got more of it if you ever want more...sold my Black Widow awhile back

They used to make it in .17 HMR as well it seems. Do not send me to a heaven where there are no dogs. Step Up or Stand Aside: Support the Troops ! Expectations are premeditated disappointments.

I have the 22lr S&W 43C but threads like this make me want the 351.

The 351c is no joke. Never should have sold mine. As Para mentioned, just the sound and flash alone from that thing would scare the bejeebus out of anybody on the opposite end. I’ve been eyeing a 351PD lately …

My tiny little gun is a 1962 vintage S&W Chief's Special, When I got it it was obviously a Sock Drawer Special. As in no evidence of every being fired and tiny little rust freckles on the side that was facing the bottom wood of the drawer. It came with the original Tiny Magna grips. You know, the ones that require you to re-grasp the gun after every shot fired. Also had the original 15 lbs. DA trigger pull common to these older J frames and that bundle of razor blades serrated trigger. The finger started bleeding on shot #8 so S&W did a great job of getting those "serrations" on the trigger sharp enough to shave beef or a face with. Toughed it out for 15 rounds and didn't scream once but I'm sure a weaker man like Bruce Springsteen would have been crying like a 3 year old. After that outing I went home and ordered up a Wolff spring kit for it, removed the trigger to polish some radii on the serrations, and ordered up a giant Hogue rubber grip for it. It's a lot more comfortable to shoot now but I'm going to keep looking for a mid sized wood grip set for it because it's pretty damned ugly. As for those teeny tiny revolvers, I've been tempted many times but every time I've checked one out all I see is those sharp little corners and visions of blood puddles under a range bench. Because I've reached that age where blood thinners have become part of life. I've stopped counting.

Thank you Very little |
I like the idea of those, and 22 wmr, but that lack of a trigger guard kinda spooks me, reaching into a pocket and accidentally pulling it back. How hard is it to pull that ity bitty tiny weenie trigger... Am I concerned about nothing? Maybe I should just get a 351C

Yes Well, it's a superior revolver. Seven shots. More reliable ignition. Faster follow up shots. More quickly reloaded. It's also larger, heavier and more expensive.

The NAA mini-revolvers are single-action-only. You have to cock the hammer for every shot. That's not likely to happen in your pocket.
