Just found & adopted a nearly brand new Sig P227 that, even during this Armageddon like gun panic, I got for a really decent price. Have a few questions though, as there just isn't much out there info wise on these.

I assume the E2 grip was proprietary to this pistol? Can't seem to find any information on whether it was the same grip as the P226, but I doubt it. Also, all the sites I've run down show it to be discontinued. That kind of surprises me a bit, as I've read Pennsylvania and a few other state police agencies still issue this pistol.

Also, is the guide rod a "this pistol only!" deal, too? I've seen several sources online that've said the P227 is really just a P220 slide assembly on top of a modified P226 frame...sounds a bit too simplistic to me, but if I wanted to add a solid stainless guide rod, it seems there are none made specifically for this gun. However, if a P220 guide rod is the same, then no problem finding one.

I can't be the only guy that's ever thought of these issues with this pistol, hopefully someone out there is a P227 guru!

The P227 grip is unique to that model. No other models' grips will fit it.

The guide rod is the same as the P220's. Both upper assemblies are the same. The only difference is the model roll marks.

I am not sure what you are asking here so I will answer it two ways.

No, the E2 grip style was offered on many different frames. Or No, the E2 grips are not the only grip that can be put on this firearm.

EDIT: OK, I see there is a third option which is probably the real question

Perhaps I worded it poorly. But I did see that Hogue still makes G10 grips for it, probably going to pick a up set.
