Springfield Armory XD Mod 4
Guess they're trying to get maximum mileage out of this design. Aren't some of the Turkish pistols copies of this gun?

Yep, the Tisas PX9 and the BRG9 are clones.

But the XD itself began as a rebranded/licensed HS2000 from Croatia.

According to Springfield sales reps, the original “Mod1” XD (mechanically identical to the Mod2/3/4) is still the top seller (I wonder how much of that is because of CA) - not counting the Echelon and XDM - and HS Produkt has no plans to discontinue it. It seems the only reason for the Mod3 - now the Mod4 - existing is to offer an optics cut at a more accessible price point than the XDM and Echelon.

This poor thing has always been an also ran, the only thing it's got to offer that a Glock or an M&P, or even a P320 at this point is that stupid grip safety.

I don't know who's buying them.

I’m not a fan of grip safeties either. As much as I hate to say it though, they do serve an important functional purpose in the XD.

I have owned a few of the them over the years and wanted to like them but I could never really shoot them well. I figured with the Echelon they would concentrate on that design instead of revamping the XD. I don't know how much of a foreign market there is for these but I don't see many of the XD guns at many dealers anymore unless they are in the used gun cases. The whole "Grip Zone" was a total failure and have no idea why they went all in with that slogan. I hope many people were fired for that nonsense. At least with the "Yeet Cannon" you knew what they were selling but weren't serious about it.

Speaking of the HS2000, I bought one a year or so before I relocated to Virginia from Ohio (11/2001).

I still love that pistol, and I wish I could have found a Subcompact model from the HS2000 line and not SA.

Say what you want about them, they work.

27-ish year-old design that works.
