I thought that finally acquiring a 29-2 would quiet my urge for circa 1970s revolvers but it seems to have had the opposite effect. I recently picked up the 19-3 that I previously posted and now I bought a 1986 produced 586-1 in nearly flawless condition. The trigger is everything I hoped it would be and accuracy is parallel.
It cost me $625. I’m hoping one of our resident gun shop employees can give me feedback on that price. It is worth every penny to me which is what matters but I’m curious as to what the average price may be.

I think you did good. That's a beautiful revolver. I have the same gun I bought any back in 1983 as my 21st birthday present to myself.
I recently bought a no-dash 4" 686 for $675 that's in excellent condition, but not as nice as the 586 you just bought.

I think that's a fair price.
It looks as though there is almost no turn line.
Nice pick up on an excellent Distinguished Combat Magnum.

I think you paid a good price for a great gun. If it came with those grips then it's even better.

I would say you did very well.

I recently purchased a BNIB 1983 586 no dash in factory nickel. I own the other S&W finishes and always wanted a nickel. To have a full lug 357... satisfied the need and then some.

Given the prices of older Smiths today, I think its a good buy.

That is gorgeous! I'm not really a full underlug guy but there is something about those 6" L frames that makes it perfectly sexy.

+1 about the full under lug. Everything Ive been drooling over lately has the half lug. This one made me throw that thought out the window.

A ery fair price, somewhat in your favor. It looks like about a 95-97% condition. After the Model 27, 586s are the best .357 S&W magnum shooters.

You did good on the price, so rest easy.

Be aware that there is still an active recall on the 586-1. With some ammunition (notably Federal 125 gr .357 Mag) you may get primer flow into the firing pin bushing on the recoil shield, which ties up the gun. If the recall has been done, there will be an "M" stamp adjacent to the serial number on the frame under the yoke. Don't confuse this with the "M" that Smith sometimes uses to denote "model" such as M586-1. The recall "M" is usually stamped above, below or to the right of the serial. If no "M" and you wish to have the recall done, contact Smith for a call tag.
