I recently got my sig 229 back after not having it for almost 15 years. It is marked s4 which if memory serves me was a suppressor ready model (threaded barrel and raised night sights which I removed and sold, maybe here on this forum) I replaced the barrel with a standard one I believe I got from top gun supply as well as trijicon night sights (which are dead now).

I put a hogue wrap around grip on this gun back in the day and today I received some hogue non wrap around grips which don’t fit. I can see they aren’t cut out where they should be so they don’t fit around the back of the handle frame.

The grips were marked sig 228/229. Is there a way to tell which grips will work? I’ve been out of the sig game for a really long time and this hogue wrap around grip just isn’t doing it for me. Can somebody recommend grips and a way to know they will fit?

Thank you.

The ones I just tried didn’t fit, maybe they were older ones?

Is your pistol a 229c?
I thought sig had a 229 carry model that had unique size grips. I could be wrong.

The S4 model is definitely not a Carry P229. It's just a regular P229 with threaded barrel and suppressor height sights.

Thanks for that, I didn't know what "S4" meant.

Can you post or send me pictures of the inside of the Hogue grips? Did you buy them direct?
As Q said, all current production grips fit all variants over the years. Old rev's will Not fit the new production frames. I do believe you have an old revFrown

Wood P229 DA/SAREV C since 2021
G10 P229 DA/SA REV I since 2014

Not sure as to the grip in question you reference

Just out of curiosity, what did SIG change on the P229 to warrant the newer revisions? Comparing my brand-new M11-A1 and my 1998 P229, I am unable to spot any frame differences.

I will share my recent frustration with a P229 frame NOT allowing a perfectly good grip to fit correctly. I ran into this problem with a P229 stainless frame (229-40-S) made in Germany around 2005.

I had a nice vintage set of Hogue aluminum grips with no SIG logo (“SIG P228 REV. I”). Those grips fit just fine on 5 other frames I have (229-40-S) made in Germany from around the same 2005 era.

I figured it out. As bad luck would be, the odd frame having fit issues has a grip screw boss outside diameter a bit bigger than diameter of the other frames with NO fit issues.

The grips fit perfect with just a touch of wiggle along the backstrap on the frames having a boss diameter of approximately 0.237”.

The boss diameter on frame with fit issue are 0.250” causing interference with the grip fitting along the backstrap.

That bigger boss is enough difference to cause the backstrap interference. No way any of the aluminum grips I have fit correct. I grabbed some other types of grips and the only ones fitting nice, have bigger holes in the grip panels. The plastic grips seem to have more relaxed holes, but numerous pairs of all types having “tighter” holes, DO NOT fit the odd frame having what I will call BIG screw bosses (0.250”).

I own eight 229s and three 228s. Most but not all of them rail-less Germans. I think I bought the last two sets of Nill-Griffe grips ever made for the 228/229 frame about a decade ago. Just kidding of course but I really like fat wood grips and have looked in vain for more of the Nills ever since.

I've had good luck with the KSD grips. Aside from them sending grips for a Colt Python (which I don't own) and losing a set in transit and sending a cracked set . . . Their customer service has always refunded or replaced any grips I've had problems with. I have at least 9 sets from them - one set for a PPK/S, two for 226s and the rest for 228/229s. I've never had a problem with the fit. They're not Nills but they're pretty damn nice - the one's I've gotten from them look and feel great.

Just purchased two sets of Hogue non checkered grips for my P229 Elite and a P228R. Very nice fit and finish but a little slick.

I really want a set of the Rosewood grips that came on the SSE's but no luck finding any.

Anyone know if Hogue will checker their grips in a custom way for a fee? I don't want the entire grip checkered, just the lower half.

I know.
I would have handled this off line but no email listed in your profile.

Email me and we can discuss, but your request is possible with current limitations

Has the hammer strut system been modified in any way.
that might interfere with the grips or the trigger bar spring old to new.

Interesting about the KSD grips. I was looking at them until I purchased the Hogue grips and found out from Ken that Hogue will checker for me plus just love the fit and finish of the Hogue's.

The reviews I read about the KSD's were hit and miss so I passed. BTW, the prices for the KSD's on the bestpistolgrips website are about double of what is on Ebay. Find the grip on Ebay and add it to your watch list and they will usually throw an offer of around $75 which is half of the website.
