I am having SIG install night sights on my P320C 9mm slide. I'd like your observations on the 2 night sights SIG offers. I'm not interested in other manufacturers at the moment. I have 2 Conversion kit slides with SIG night sights. A full size 357/40 and a compact 357/40. They are the sights which look like semi-opague painted white dots in day light but are visible tritium at night. They are quite good. I also have a set of X Ray sights on my P365. When setting up the order to ship the 9mm slide back to SIG, I ordered the X Ray sights. But I'm still undecided which to get - the type that are already on my P320 conversion slides or the X Rays that are on my P365? The tritium vials on the conversion slides appear to me to be larger in diameter than the X Ray front sight vials. All 3 "dots" are very prominent. With the X Rays, the two rear "dots" are definitely a little smaller, but having the front "dot" larger makes you focus quicker on the front sight, which is a good thing. The X ray front sight is also visible in green during daylight, which is not important to me, although pretty cool. I think that is due to a fiber optic ring around the X Ray front sight tritium vial. Any thoughts, gents? Thanks in advance, Mike

I strongly prefer the X-ray style. That extra “pop” during the day makes a heck of a difference in getting on target faster for me. Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here. Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard. -JALLEN "All I need is a WAR ON DRUGS reference and I got myself a police thread BINGO." -jljones

The actual tritium vials will be the same size; the same sight picture in the dark. Some prefer a black rear sight, some like dots there. I think they're useful for night alignment, don't have much use for them in the daylight, so subdued, without a lot of extra white or rings for the rear sight, for me. For the pistols I use for competition (fun shooter, crappy competitor), I like fiber optic, because they're a smaller front sight; the sight covers less acreage downrange on the target. Defensively, I like Trijicon XR sights. The sig X-ray sights, which come in two basic flavors, aren't my favorite. I have them on P365's because they came with the P365's and they're low profile, and I have them on some Legions, because they came with the legions. A bright yellow front ring around tritium is my preference for carry, though I have a lot of orange fronts, too.

Thanks, folks. I appreciate your observations and opinions. For daylight self defense shooting, the X Ray front sight does nothing for me. I shoot well, and about the same with both the Xray, SigLite and traditional white painted Sig fixed sights. Before I ship the slide back I am going to have to make a decision on which type I want for low light. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Malysh,

I like the X-Ray sights myself but hated the height differences on the P365. I wound up switching out the front sight to a #8, as it had a #6 on it originally and I didn't care for the sight picture. Now it shoots like a laser for me.

Of course that comment has nothing to do with the actual problem of shooting in marginal light conditions. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

Between SIGLite (the semi-opaque style) and SIG X-Ray...I would select X-Ray. With my eyes at the age that they're at, I can make out the X-Ray front sight whereas the SIGLite front would be washed out in many outdoor lighting conditions. But neither is really a preferred choice for me, since I don't like or regularly use 3-dot configurations, or the customary 'combat' sight holdover that SIG and their pistols are typically set up for. -MG

I just got siglites on my new 320 and massively regret not getting XRAYs. I LOVE the fat front sight on the xrays on my 365s and the one 320 that has them. ________________________________________________

I've become a big fan of the Trijicon HD XR sights with the orange ring surrounding the Tritium night sight. So much so, that I've swapped out all the older sights on my classic P Series guns. However, the cheap horn that I am won't let me swap out the Sig night sights on my P365, P365XL, and my P320's. So, I guess I'll wait until they go dim. ************************************************ "Tonight, we are a country awakened to danger and called to defend freedom. I took my P365 out back this A.M. to see how the front sight looked in bright sunlight. I have not shot the pistol in about 4 months. Congosuerte was right. That fiber optic ring surrounding the tritium DOES pop. After a week of careful consideration I think I will have SIG install the X Rays instead of the SIGlite sights.

Xrays suck, Trijicon HD XRs are the best currently available.

You didn't ask about any other sights, but I'll offer my opinion on other choices, anyway. My favorite defensive sight is the XS DXT2 defense express sights. It's the fastest, highest visibility sight I've used. It's virtually impossible not to to see the front dot. The glowing ring around the front tritium vial stays charged by the tritium. In all lighting conditions, the front sight is far more visible than the Trijicon HD front sight, also pictured. And centering it in the shallow rear V is faster than getting the HD front dot between the rear goal posts. At night, that front sight is a beacon that you can even see in your peripheral vision even when the gun is pointed at the floor. I have XS DXT and DXT2s on some Glocks, Trijicon HDs on others, Trijicon Bright and Toughs on some, XS RAM/R3Ds on some (which I think are fully the equal, maybe better, than the Trijicon HDs), and TruGlo TFX Pros on some. My RAMs even have Trijicon stamped on them. The XS DXTs are faster and more visible than all the others. For a purely defensive handgun, it's very hard to beat the XS DXT2 sights. _____________ "I enter a swamp as a sacred place—a sanctum sanctorum. I want to again, thank all of you who took the time to respond in this thread, it's appreciated. Special thanks to Micropterus, who went the extra mile to post pictures of the XDS DXT2 sights.
