ClubsterSmith 929 PC
Anyone have any history with the Smith 929 PC in 9mm? I have never seen one in the wild or even shot one before. Shot plenty of PC revolvers and they are nice but not the 929. I was all set on getting the TS2 Orange and actually getting ready to bring one in but the 629 popped up on my radar. I am using the gun for bullseye range use so I know accuracy on both will work just great I would think. What I am thinking is that I reload so by using a revolver I am not chasing brass everywhere and I have many other 9mm semi's if I want speed.
Hmm..........what to do.

Pizza BobI have been using one for USPSA for several years. I had been using a 627-4 PC in .38 Super, but retired it in favor of the 929. Mine was worked over by Dave Olhasso, formerly of Team S&W, currently with Team Ruger. Modifications included cutting off the barrel nipple that served as the mount for a compensator, and recrowning the muzzle - and then the normal things one does to a competition revolver.
Due to hand surgery, I replaced the stocks seen in the picture with a set of Hogue Tamers (as used on the X-frames).
I use RIMZ poly moon clips as they are not picky about what brass you use - they support the cartridge not by just the extractor groove, but also by surrounding the case head. Holds any brand of brass rigidly - good for games, not really necessary if just a range toy.
I really like this gun and shoot Federal 150 gr Syn Tech ammo exclusively.
Hope this helps you come to a decision.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

longjohnBob, what's behind your ammo choice of the 150 gr Syn Tech ? Anything in particular ?
Is it low recoiling ? Unusually accurate ?
Just curious
Thanks

Low recoiling and good on steel. Pretty clean too. Plus with Federal primers the trigger can be set a little lighter. I don't reload anymore - did back in the day out of necessity.

hrcjonOne year I decided to see if I could do well in the revolver division of our steel matches. I ran a 929. Stock not worked over like PB's.
From that experience if I wanted to make small groups slowfire there is not a chance I would pick the 929 over the CZ. now if you want a revolver have at it for other benefits, its likely to do well in the accuracy dept. But its not going to outshoot the cz.

ClubsterI went to the range today and was picking up my 9mm brass like a crack head and averaged about 75% retention of brass without intruding on anyone or range officer who sweeps every 5 min. I shot a mag and picked up brass, did it again and again. By doing it this way it forced me to slow it down and actually enjoy it more. With a 75% retention it’s not as bad as I thought so probably will just get the CZ now and 929 later.

mindustrialAlways liked moon clip guns, all my ammo clipped up ready to go, a lot less wasted time on range. Not until I did a combat revolver shoot did I really appreciate its value.
