I have always been a Classic Sig P-series DA/SA guy. The P220 and P239 had been the perfect service and EDC pistols for me. I just loved that single stack feel.

Several years ago I purchased a P938 as a BUG to my EDC P239. I struggled with the manual of arms and retraining my muscle memory. I persevered through the reliability issues and implemented permanent solutions. Along the way, I fell in love with this micro pistol. I shoot it as well as I do my larger Sigs and frankly it is fun to shoot.

I liked it he P938 so much I stated researching subcompact 9 mm 1911's, just to see what was available. My only other experience with a 1911 was a malfunctioning Taurus that alternated between failure to feed and failure to eject, so I was really hesitant.

After months of research, I ordered a Dan Wesson ECO 9mm. The moment I held this pistol I knew I had a new favorite. After some initial break-in and magazine issues the pistol has been flawless for me. At 1200 +/- rounds my 18 YO daughter and the female range owner/instructor experienced some failure to eject issues that I could not replicate. I have since thoroughly cleaned the extractor and expect that will have resolved the issue. I need my daughter to return from college to confirm.

Just like the P938, the ECO has won me over. The ECO fits my XL hands well, points naturally, is crazy accurate, has an amazing trigger, and is a hoot to shoot. I pick up my Sigs and they feel blocky and unrefined by comparison. I actually caught myself daydreaming about shooting the ECO and trying to decide which Sig or rifle I was going to sell to buy my next 1911. My mind is whirring. Do I want a CCO size or a little larger? What caliber: 9mm 45 ACP, 10mm, 460 Rowland? Do I stay high end production or dive into the customs? My mind has become obsessed with the topic.

Let me say I am 100% OK with my new addiction, assuming my bank account survives. No interventions, please. Thus far, I am able to control my urges. Razz

Anybody else have these issues?

Of the P938 pistol owners, was the pistol a turn-on or turn-off for you?

1911s are the only guns I carry with a round in the chamber! The P938 is even more comfortable in my pant pocket or otherwise concealed. With it, I can charge the chamber while on safety. When I get home I can discharge the chamber while on safety. This is an added advantage that my 45s and 9mm 1911s can not provide.

I agree with both of you, although I moved from the 1911 to the P238 then P938. The 238 is now parked in my safe, and the 938 has been by my side during the warmer months. Once cooler weather arrives, I transition to a Sig 1911 Ultra or 1911 Nightmare Carry.

I just added a Sig P365 just because.

This is very close to my experience except I went with a Sig C3 instead of the Nightmare Carry. I love the C3 and carry it often. I highly recommend it for IWB carry.

Discharge the chamber? Do you mean unloading it? The ability to discharge a weapon when it has a manual safety engaged is generally viewed as “A Bad Thing,” which the safety is, by design, intended to prevent. You’re misusing black powder terminology in a way that doesn’t even apply to semi-auto pistols or anything that fires from a cartridge, which is, by nature, a self-contained charge. Furthermore, you’re doing it in a way that tries to make you sound smart to someone who doesn’t know otherwise when I have to question your choice to clear your piece nightly and, I assume re-chamber the same round many times over (bullet setback would be a cool term to look up and toss around).

This is how we end up with every guy on YouTube with a gun and a beard adding a new letter and syllable to the word “ambidextrous” for about decade now because Chris Costa. Don’t be a cut-rate Chris Costa.

I gather that you can chamber and unchamber the pistol while the manual safety is engaged? If that’s correct, then that’s a feature set I can enthusiastically support. A discharge of any sort while the weapon is loaded and the safety is engaged is absolutely something I am opposed to.

Sorry to derail, but words matter.

Love my P938 and basically on the same journey, not quite to purchase. My uncle is a 1911 only guy, and I always thought does he know what he's missing. Been trying some 1911's at the range and leaving with a smile on my face.

FWIW, I shoot weekly with a small group of very good defensive shooters. Last week, we decided to have a 1911 morning, since one of the guys bought a new 1911.

Guy A with 1911 he bought after selling all his about five years ago.

Guy B never shot a 1911 in his life. Guy C loaned him one for the range session.

Guy C rarely shoots his nowadays.

Guy D (me) shoots and carries his Wilson Pro frequently.

At the end of the range session we ALL had big smiles on our faces. EVERYBODY should own at least one 1911. If not, ya don't know what you're missing.

Loved your post.
Perhaps because I think that that is part of the reason I have avoided a 938 -- it would be just so inconvenient to get hooked in a serioius way on a different manual of arms.
But someone has to feed the beast -- glad you are doing it.
I predict in your future dissatisfaction with your current love, and a Wilson EDCX9 in your future. At that point, after untreatable fascination for an incredible piece of art, you will realize that, indeed you really did want to stick with a single stack, and you will get a Wilson EDC 9 (making you realize the EDC X9 is the budget model). Then you will realize two is one...
Good luck.

I would love to drive a Wilson and several other higher end 1911 just to see what all the fuss is about, but most of the people I know (myself included) don't have that kind of gun budget. Frown

Maybe someday or after I sell a kidney.

You live in the DFW area?

PS Born in Rochester, but escaped as a young lad.
