Long Term Value P232 vs P6? Login/Join

I have an opportunity to acquire a P232 (stainless) with 3 mags or a P6 with one. Pretty close in costs overall. I need neither as I already have a few copies of each. I have some extra cash burning a hole in my pocket.

All things considered what likely will appreciate more over say 20 years. Worse case a bunch of spare parts for my other pistols.

Question:
P6 or P232 - Which has more long term potential to grow in value?

Choices:
P6
P232

I don't think either one, in my opinion. There are a few in my area for sale on local boards and they are asking $500 obo for either and they have been listed for quite some time. Hard to tell about values as it changes all the time.

I like the P6 better but would probably buy the 232 because of the extra magazines, which have gotten pretty expensive.

I’m not sure either of these would make the best long term investment. While I’ve made decent gains on firearms over the years and might be net ahead, I don’t think investing in firearms as investments is very prudent. I look at them as more of a storage of value. Meaning they are easily converted to cash, especially if you stick to high quality name brands.

With that said, I would pick the one that appeals to you most. I personally would pick the 232 as I think they are one of the most aesthetically pleasing firearms ever made. The micro 9s have knocked the overall practicality of both pistols from a CCW standpoint.

I appreciate the feedback and the votes. I should have clarified I never have viewed any of my firearm purchases as investments. Much closer to the idea of them holding value over time. Not exactly the same but much closer to how some people view silver/gold.

There is a decent chance I will not get anything.

^^^ Then, just choose whatever you like. However, to answer your question, the P232 might appreciate just a hair more than the P6, imo. But, they both won't appreciate much more.

This is just my opinion and only my opinion. Please feel free to ignore it if you don't like it.

In my opinion, Sig aluminum frames age like milk. If they get any use at all, they get beat up.

There is nothing you can do about it. You have sliver aluminum underneath black anodizing. This is based off of seeing many L.E. trade-in pistols over the years at various gun shows.

If you are just looking at long-term value, I would go with the P232 Stainless.

I wouldn't buy either with the mindset of an investment since neither gun is rare or a collector like a p210 or p7. Between the 2 I'd buy the p6 since I prefer 9mm over 380. I think the development of hi capacity compact/sub compact have made these single stack pistols less practical and more challenging to resale. I ought a slightly abused p225 a few years back after it sat for a long time on the local gun classifieds. Paid 400 which I thought was fair but I don't see it going up much in value. I bought it because I like the p6/225 and wanted a shooter.

P232. Both sweet pistols, but those P230 and P232 are just slick.

I have enjoyed following the replies. Thanks to everyone participating.

I will say from a purely aesthetic standpoint it is really hard to beat the P232.

I also agree about the aluminum alloy receiver issues. From a LONG term standpoint the P232 seems to have a stronger advantage.

I have some S&W 3rd generation pistols. Strangely the one I like the most of my 59XX series is the 5906 which is all stainless.

Perhaps the technology will change in the future where it will be more viable/cost effective to have an alloy frame/receiver refinished. At the same time it removes any collector value for most.

In the end they are not collector pieces. For reasons based on anything other than looks and "feel" I am more drawn to the P232.

You can’t just casually mention a 5906 without including a picture. I believe it’s in the forum rules somewhere….
