Plowing straight ahead come what may |
Long story short...I love me some Ruger Bisleys...I sold my original blue 6.5" blue Bisley Single Six a few years back for a ridiculously high price to a fellow CAS shooter who saw it and just had to have it (the buyer's offer was out of the blue, I wasn't even trying to sell it, so my conscience is clear )...I then purchased a regular 6.5" Single Six Convertible in stainless...never needed the magnum cylinder and it just "didn't feel right", so I sold it to another CAS shooter (both of us were happy with the deal)...but I missed that original Bisley .22 ... So today...when I ran across a stainless steel Ruger Bisley 6.5" Single Six at Bud's for $429 with free shipping to my FFL today, I had to order one (locally regular SS Single Six Rugers are a quite a few bucks more...and I don't really need the magnum cylinder)...I'm all about SS for a field gun...also, I have a 15# hammer spring and a reduced pull trigger spring just screaming to be installed... I'm hoping Bud's don't email me that it's out of stock (they had 10 showing)...I'm even more "little girl" giddy with this order than when I received my Magpul Bipod This message has been edited. Very cool gun. I bought a Heritage Roughrider .22lr a couple years back and while it has been a great gun I would love to upgrade to a Ruger one day. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

Congratulations on a great purchase. You are going to love it. I got one a few months ago. I got one of the .44 Special Bisleys a few years ago. I love the Bisley and have not shot any of my other single actions since I got the Bisley. I told a few dealers if they ever came out with a Bisley Single Six that I would buy it. I was walking thru a gun show and a dealer I know stopped me and showed me the Bisley Single Six. I bought it right there. I am very happy with mine.

Congratulations - what a nice looking revolver! I too recently picked up a Ruger Single Six - in my case a first year 1973 New Model with a fluted .22 magnum conversion cylinder. Although my preference would also have been for a stainless steel model, I felt my LGS "out-the-door" price of $320 was fair for a well maintained example. I fired it recently with the .22 magnum conversion cylinder using Hornady 45 gr. Critical Defense loads. At 7 yards it was printing ~3 inches high with the rear sight adjusted to the lowest setting. I suspect at 25 yards POI will be closer to POA. I didn't have time to experiment, though I'm anxious to compare 22 lr vs. 22 mag at that distance. 1973 Single Six

I love my new Ruger Single 10, scored it barely used for under $400 and it shoots ragged holes. _________________________ Trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up

I have a single six much like HJS157’s and I ran .22LR for at least a couple years before trying .22 Magnum. It was my first experience with .22 Magnum and to say I was taken aback is an understatement. I expected a tiny bit more pop. What I got was a heck of a lot more bang. Not a ton more recoil but enough of both to know that .22 Maggie is a pretty different animal for sure. Great guns. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

I’ve a Single six blued with magnum cylinder and a bearcat shopkeeper. Love them both, though to be honest my 4 5/8 barrel six is pretty much magnum and the shopkeeper is .22lr. Kids love them as do I. Enjoy love these pistols. “Forigive your enemy, but remember the bastard’s name.” -Scottish proverb

Got to love a Bisley! That is a fine example to be sure. Few things fit the hand like a Bisley. Here's mine, it's the older brother .480 version.

I picked it up from my FFL yesterday afternoon (Bud's order was quick and painless as usual)...brought it home for a cleaning and lube...I was going to change out the factory 23# hammer spring for either the 17# or 19# Wolff spring (I have both) but I may put that on hold, the hammer spring is way much lighter than on my previous Single Six Rugers...trigger pull was a good 4.5# on the scale with just a little creep... I like the rosewood laminated grips (I'm not a fan of the black/grey laminated I've seen, that's just me) but these really look nice... The cylinder is rollmarked with the same "Bisley 1896" pattern just like my .45s... Overall, I'm happy with this revolver and look forward to hitting the range tomorrow after Church...if it shoots as well as it looks, I'll be a happy camper ... I did notice there is no "S" in the Ruger Phoenix logo anymore ...but at least they put that unsightly stupid assed "warning" roll mark under the barrel next to the ejector housing instead on the side ... +1. While it may seem petty, those giant warnings bother more than a few Ruger owners.

My single six is the blued Bisley from around 20 years ago, which sounds like the one you sold off in your post. The first handgun I ever shot was a single six of my uncle’s back around ‘71, and have loved them ever since. My problem is that when I got older I found the grips to be a little cramped so I held off buying one. Then when Ruger offered the Bisley model I HAD to have it. There would have been no way I would have sold mine, especially as high as prices got on those guns if I had to replace it. I hope you got really good money on the first one to make going without it bearable!
