On the Internet, a site called Gun Prime. Advertised a M11 A1 P229 in 40 Smith and Wesson for sale. I purchased just that but received a P229 without the stamp on the slide or the receiver. I contacted them And they told me that I should learn to read because the M111 A1 is actually P228 not a P229. I sent them a picture of a P229 in 9mm. But thier advertised picture was of a 40s/w. Long story shortened they refused to take back the gun the gun that came to me with a worn out recoil spring so worn out the gun is unusable. I have since purchased a Wolff 17 pound recoil spring to remedy the situation that I’m forced to be in. I kinda like the gun, but it was not what I intended to purchase. They refused to give me my money back or send me the pistol they had advertised. So with this epiphany I ask, what is the lineage of the M11. The Internet says it came about as a replacement for the M9 but I don’t really know what’s going on with that as I’m new to the Sig Manufacturer.

Welcome! If what you said is what happened, then you got deceived by scums, imo.

1. You received a FrankenSIG, meaning it was put together by parts from different guns. That, or they clearly misadvertised a regular P229 in .40 S&W as an M11A1.

2. There are no M11A1s in .40 S&W from factory. Only in 9mm.

3. The M11A1 is a P229, not P228. Originally, in 2012, SIG suckered many people into thinking it's a P228 with flashy and misleading advertising campaign and by putting P228 grips on the gun, but even they eventually fessed up and admitted that it's a P229 and put the correct grips on.

4. The M11A1, although an excellent pistol in its own right, is just SIG gimmick as noted above and has nothing to do with the M9 replacement.

It might be smart to send the gun back to Sig for the service program, since it sounds like it has a high round count. You will get all new springs, pins and night sights. You will then get the gun back with a letter stating the gun meets factory specs. Well worth the $$$ spent.
Welcome aboard!

I believe that Gunprime is just a clearing house that independent FFL dealers can sign up to and then easily list their own guns for sale to a nationwide audience. Sort of like GB but lacking their auction component. Where you corresponding with Gunprime with your complaints or with the actual dealer who listed the gun?

You might repeat you tale on other gun forums (Glock, Ruger, HK) to warn others about Gunprime.

Gun Prime answered the phone. The background sounded like a boiler room setup. Their “Trustpilot” reviews are chock full of negative feedback. There were a few positives too maybe 50/50. If I could figure out howto sue them I would. I feel I was taken advantage of.

Don't answer this, cause I already know, but you could file a complaint with your credit card company.

I consider misleading the sale, fraud.

They KNEW it wasn't an M11 A1, but advertised it as such.

Was the slide rollmarks not visible in the ad?

They changed it … that’s what grabbed my attention, was the fact that I was seeing a M11 A1 for sale within my price range. That I could use for a truck gun. But when I got it, it was far from what I was shown in the advertisement. And, in hindsight, when I look at the logo that they used, it had changed.

Now, in keeping with what was said above about the fact that the M11 A1 gun was only sold in the 9 mm flavor. I am able to understand that a 40 Smith & Wesson is not a true M11 A1. But they should have, I thought Differentiated one way or another that buyer beware this is a 9 mm only item. But now that it’s all said and done, I’m stuck with something I did not intend to buy. Please understand that once it’s in my hands. That I do like the pistol, but I feel I was misled and the crooks that they are. They won’t support me in trying to straighten it out.

I'm not sure I'm totally understanding the scenario here. My take is that you wanted to purchase what was represented as an M11A1 in .40 S&W, but instead received a regular P229 in 9mm with a worn out recoil spring? You also didn't clarify how you determined that the recoil spring was worn out, but I assume you shot it and had malfunctions that were rectified when you replaced the spring?

If that's correct, I can understand being pissed about the misrepresentation on the part of the seller. But as others have pointed out, the M11A1 was never offered in .40, so you also failed to do your homework before purchasing the gun. Buyer beware, especially when shopping online with an unfamiliar seller. You've gotta do your research before handing over the cash, not afterwards. Their offering a gun for sale in a configuration that never left the factory should have been a red flag.

Now that you're stuck with it, maybe I can help provide a different outlook on the situation. You didn't say what you paid, but I assume it was a relatively fair if not decent price compared to other online sources for an M11A1. Like you've said, the gun you received is actually a very nice gun. The M11A1 is just marketing fluff...a stupid logo painted on a regular old P229 with grip panels that say P228 (IIRC it may have a short-reset trigger from the factory, too, but I'm not 100% on that, and either way that's only $40 if you did want to add it). It's not a true overrun military contract weapon, or even a gun built to a military spec...just a plain old commercial gun with some paint and logos. Functionally, and in every practical way that matters, your 9mm P229 is exactly the same gun as an M11A1, and it's an excellent handgun on its own merits.

The other thing you have going for you is that if you really want a .40, you should have no problem trading your 9mm gun for one. With the loss of popularity of the .40 S&W and glut of police trade .40s on the market, those guns are going for significantly less than their 9mm counterparts. I've seen them for as low as $400, while the 9mms will go for 50-75% more than that. If your heart is set on a .40, it should be pretty easy for you to work out a deal to make that happen either locally or here in the Sigforum classifieds.

It's a bad deal that you got lied to by the seller, but assuming there's no catastrophic mechanical defect with the gun you received all is not lost. You still have the opportunity to make the best of the situation.

You almost have it right I understood what they had to be a 40 S/W. M11 A1 pistol and I understand now that the M11 A1 was only a 9 mm carrying 15 rounds in its magazine. They had a picture up of a M11 a1,on one side and on the other side of the slide they had a picture of a 40s/w but they described the offering as if it was a 40s/w. https://imgur.com/a/mzo1ACC I reached out to them to return the gun because it was not what I thought they had advertised. You are correct, I did not do my research well enough prior to purchase my fault. They flat refused to send me a return order and I thought that was crooked of them to treat me that way, especialy considering the recoil spring. I think I would have done business with them further because I really wanted a 40. But when they flat refused to make it right, I lost all desire to do anything more with them. The recoil spring that’s busted is in fact the braided spring, that came originally with the gun. Which is frayed almost to the point of separation. I’m afraid to shoot it at this point until I can get a proper recoil spring. Which I have ordered from Wolff Industries and just in case I’ve also ordered from Sig the kit that they offer For the 40/357 P229. The reason I jumped on buying this gun was that I wanted a 40 S/W for my truck. I have a 9mm safe queen and I have a 45 that I currently use as a truck gun I had bought the used 40 to use as my truck gun because I thought that the 45 was a bit anemic, considering today’s capacities and different calibers being carried about. You’re right about my research not being done. That’s why this discussion is titled M11 A1 lineage. I was asking for any data as far as that was concerned. Cause I really did not know, and I was seeing conflicting stuff on You Tube and in reading that was vague and not to the point. I think at the very top of this discussion someone had said that it was only the 9mm that was considered the M11-a1.

^^^ Yeah, totally deceptive ad. Those are simply old Legacy P229s in .40 S&W. Nothing M11A1 about them.

Price is pretty fair for what they are, though. (I googled it and found the ad...$459).

And it does look like they changed the website description to remove M-11 from the title (I saw it earlier but it's gone now).

But they forgot one or two details...

I don't think it's intentional deception, per se, just they are really stupid when it comes to SIGs.

Eureka!!!!! That is what I bought, and received in an unusable form. I could not find that 1st picture of the guns right side with the M11 a1 stamp and the little badge on the lower side. But at least someone saw it too. I was afraid to say I saw it and then it disappeared I thought no-one would believe me. Sir thankyou for posting this. I was afraid everyone would think I made this up. I've bought the replacement parts so far . So I'm done being humiliated by that site. And do intend to send it in for the Sig Pgm. to get it refreshed the right way.

If something like that ever happens again, just don’t complete the transfer at your FFL. Refuse the gun and send it back and then file a dispute with your credit card company. By accepting the gun, you closed that door behind you. Be very cautious when buying used guns online. About the only place I would trust is Shoot Straight. They have auctions on Gunbroker and their guns are always accurately represented with copious photos.

I hate that they sold you a legacy P229 as an M11. I’m pissed for you, man. Truly. I’ll drink a whiskey tonight for you and wish for the person who did that to you to suffer from anal leakage for their remaining days.

Used buy many and seldom loved.
