Got this from Midway USA “on sale” for about $340. The product description stated 7.5” barrel so I took a chance. And lost Smile.

It’s an incorrect-length 8” barrel based on their .44 Army barrel bored for .36 caliber. So that part is a bit annoying but it's a good looking gun and shoots great.

Video of unboxing/overview and first shots at the range for those interested.

Great video and some mighty fine shooting! Does this pistol (of any of the muzzle loaders) have a safety transfer bar? I just started looking into the black powder pistols in the .36 calibers - any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

That is cool!!! I not a real big fan of muzzlestuffers but, I have always yearned for a .36 cal revolver. Don’t know why just think it is a cool caliber. Weird I know.

No safety transfer bars or other nonsense in these, and I'm not aware of any replica cap and ball revolver that has them. This has the original Colt-type safety pins between the cones on the back of the cylinder that allow you to lower the hammer between chambers and lock it in place so you can safely carry 6 chambers loaded if you desire to.

The Remingtons have slots between chambers but you have to file the hammer narrower (or widen all the slots) for them to be functional safety features. Most people just load and carry 5 chambers. You definitely don't want to walk around with the hammer resting on a cap on these . Big Grin

Not weird at all, and it was good enough for Wild Bill Hickok. The 1851 Colt Navy (replicas) are an ideal "starter" blackpowder gun IMO.

Mike Beliveau agrees: https://youtu.be/MiJ8GkTWQxw

Here's a vid with some more info about getting started if you like: https://youtu.be/BsYJviT9OTk

Nice. I got one of those a couple years ago with a shorter barrel (5.5”?) and it’s a blast to shoot.

I refinished the grips. There were some pretty serious cross-grain sanding scratches remaining that were bothering me, so I removed the grip and stripped the finish with citri-strip, sanded with the grain at 120 and then 600 grit, tried some water-based redwood stain (which pretty much did nothing), and did about 10-12 coats of hand-rubbed boiled linseed oil over the past week until it was mostly smooth, and then finished with Tom's 1/3 wax. Looks better IMO... here's a video for any interested.

I ordered the .375 conical bullet mold for mine.
Oh I have one converted to 38 special. A Richard Masons conversion.

Very cool. I’m totally digging all types of conversions.
