PKFanQuestion about satin nickel and holsters
I recently purchased a kydex holster for my satin nickel 239 in .40 (GOTM). The maker distinguishes between a 9mm and .40, unlike many makers and the .40 version was ordered. The fit is *extremely* tight -- so tight as to make it unusable. The retention screw has been backed out completely, so that's not the issue. The maker is interested in finding out more about the situation for quality control and customer satisfaction purposes (kudos to them). I'm also assuming that they actually sent a .40 holster and not a 9mm one, as there are no markings on it indicating caliber.
My question is: Is it possible that the satin nickel finish makes the pistol slightly thicker than a standard finish and is causing the fit problem? Is there even any discernible difference in thickness between the 2 finishes?

It's been backed out all the way.

HRKSend it back to them to look at, they should be able to compare it to another 40 and replace it.

That's probably what will end up happening. They have been good about trying to resolve this rather than just authorizing a return and wishing me a nice day. We'll see how it all works out.

rbert0005Be advised that your "Satin Nickel" 239 will not be Satin for very long in kydex.

I was just wondering about that. Does it wear the finish to where it is shiny instead of satin or does it wear the nickel off completely where it rubs.

It will polish down the satin finish over time where friction occurs, but not actually remove it.
