A few years ago, I did a dumb thing and sold off a S&W Model 60 (.38sp) that I really liked but rarely carried since the small Kahrs and then the P365 came out. It was an early to mid 80s produced gun which, was just a great time in terms of quality.

Yesterday an FFL that I love put out their used gun list (they do this on Monday's and Thursdays). Well, there was a nice S&W Model 60-7 on it with a single picture and great price. I called as soon as they opened and put it on hold (if you call on the Thursday list they will hold till end of day Saturday).

I picked it up today and I'm very happy. It's in excellent condition. Here's is the pic from the ad:



I'm not a fan of the oversized grips so I thought no biggie, I'll get a set of factory originals off ebay (this was before I saw it in person). When I went to pick it up, I found the factory original grips in the factory blue cardboard box.
The original grips are in absolutely mint condition. I also found the original purchase receipt tucked in the manual. Purchased in 1992, for $390.59. The original owner then paid $90 for Smooth Action job, $32 for Dovetailing the front sight and inserting and orange ramp, lastly they paid $46.85 for the S&W branded "combat" grips. So more than likely the over sized combat grips have been on it since day 1 which is why the original factory grips are absolutely mint. No range report yet, hopefully next week. Well here it is with the original factory grips.

Are you happy with the orange ramp front sight?

I like it! Have you considered adding a Tyler T grip to that?

I've never tried one on a J-Frame, but now you have me thinking....

That was a heck of a deal, and a really nice gun with some nice upgrades. I do prefer those stock grips, though, and awesome that they're mint!

I definitely would have made that deal. My 3 J frames are all aluminum framed. A steel would make a nice addition. And you would have no trouble selling those oversized grips if you wanted.

I did the same dumb thing with a 36 in the late 1980's. Sweet, crisp trigger, I thought I needed cash and sold it along with a bunch of other nice stuff that I shouldn't have sold. Shot 2-1/2" groups at 75 feet if I did my part.

I doubt I'll have a good reason to replace it, but maybe I'll run across one and just do so.

I did the same thing last week with this one I sold 14 years ago or so.

I have had 2 or 3 J-frames over the years, but don't miss them. I found them difficult to shoot well and they don't hold much ammo and the ammo isn't that powerful. I never gave any thought to a .357 J-frame.

My 365 holds almost 3 times as many rounds and the ammo is more effective.

Thanks for that tidbit. I have no use for them so I might throw them up on ebay.
