Recently acquired a red box (plastic red box) It came w/ the .357 sig and .40 S&W barrel. Looks like the slide and barrels have been refinished but the frame is a bit on the "well worn" side. Serial number is AB139xx

a. Do you guys recommend the 40/44 for touching up the bluing on the frame?
b. Any idea why the trigger has more creep than my P228? I assumed (I know what they say about the word "assumed") that it would be similar to the p228.
c. The pistol came w the wrap around (E2?) grips. I like the texture. Do folks have any issue w/ these grips?

The frame of the P229 is aluminum alloy and cannot be blued. The P229 frame finish is essentially black paint. Birchwood Casey sells a product called "Super Black", or something like that, which will work.

I am a fan of the E2 grip and E2 parts. You could always get a short reset trigger kit or a short reach trigger, which could help with the pull/creep. I have contemplated getting a flat faced trigger for mine, as that really changes the trigger pull feel.

Any idea how many rounds have been through the gun?

My 228's trigger wasn't quite perfect out of the box (though quite nice). After a few thousand rounds the trigger wore into near perfection.

When I got my 229/9mm, again the trigger was just short of perfect. However, rather than waiting, I had Sig custom shop perform a trigger job on it (I was sending the pistol in for other work anyway, so why not). It now felt like my 228 after wear-in. Not better than the 228, mind you, just about the same. So I just saved myself some time.

No idea how many rounds were through this pistol. It is a red box so it was an agency return with unknown round count. Sig refinished the slide (looks like new), there are nice night sights and the .40 and .357sig barrels look new.

The rails on the frame are in good shape but the finish is missing so my assumption is it was cycled a lot. (Maybe just loading and unloading the firearm every day... really have no idea.)

When they go through the pistol, it is my understanding that they replace springs or anything else that "needs" to be replaced so there is no way of knowing if part of the trigger system has been replaced.

Not complaining, just more creep than any of my other p series pistols.

OK. Well, maybe it's just a matter of shooting it until the creep works itself out, as I experienced. Best of luck.
