I have a quick newbie question. I picked up a LEO trade in P227 full size the other day (still incoming) and was just wanting to grab a fresh recoil spring for it (never know how many rounds on a used gun)

now I know the P227 is discontinued but I heard that it uses the same "green" colored spring as the P220 .45 as they're basically teh same top end.

just wanted to verify it uses the same 20 lb "green" P220 spring before ordering.

ALSO. I noticed that Sig switched from the braided wire to a flatwire spring for the P220 (instead of just a simple round single wire spring like they did with many of the other classic P series guns like 229)......do I need a new recoil guide rod to fit the flatwire spring? or will it work with the standard guide rod just fine?

The P227 indeed uses the same spring as the P220 (green paint, 20#). This spring is also used by the .40 S&W and .357 SIG versions of the P226. The guide rod is also the same, regardless of the type of spring used.

sweet! thanks. I was just curious about the guide rod because I came from the 1911 world, and guide rods with flatwire springs were always a smaller diameter to accomodate for the thicker size of a flat wire spring.

but it makes sense that you can use the same guide rod, cuz sig's older "triple braided springs" were so thick to begin with that it probably is approximately the same thickness lol

You’re welcome. Assuming the standard full-size 4.4 inch barrel length (i.e. no X-Five, X-Six, Compact, or Carry models), the P220 and P226 have only ever used a single guide rod to the best of my knowledge.

sweet. being that it's basically a P220 top end on a double stack frame, it makes finding replacement parts easy at least lol
