Hi all another sig caught my eye at my local shop a P239 but in DAO it looks brand new except for one little scratch on the top of the slide . Seems to be around 2006 production I was wondering if anyone has this set up or if it's worth trying to convert it to DA/SA . They are asking 475 the new one they are selling is 850 but it is double single . looking for some advice thanks in advance

Buy it! try it out you might like the DAO. Didn't know it came that way, I have a DAK and was thinking of sending it back to Sig. Costs about $200 for the conversion to DA/SA.

Classic line SIGs like the P239 can be easily converted from DAO to DA/SA by changing the hammer to a DA/SA model and adding the decocking assembly. And although uncommon, some DAO pistols had DAO left grip plates, and if so, that would have to be changed as well.

Top Gun Supply shows the decocker parts in stock.

Two places that list DA/SA hammers:
https://www.accuratelawenforce...ammer-p/hammer-4.htm
https://www.gunpartscorp.com/g...-pistols-sig/239-sig

The thing to be sure of, though, is that the pistol really has the older double action only (DAO) trigger mechanism, and not the DAK trigger. The latter can be converted to DA/SA as well, but I believe it would require several different parts besides the hammer.

Added: I am not as familiar with the P239 as with other Classic line SIGs, so I checked my own parts stash and was reminded that converting from DAK to DA/SA would require several parts changes: at least the trigger bar, hammer strut, hammer, safety lever, all of which are true of other models as well.

At 475, if you ever want a 239, I'd grab that. Deal with the modification parts later if you decide you want to go down that road. Hopefully it has a magazine or two.

You are struggling with a 14 year old gun in a configuration that you don't really want vs a brand new gun in the exact configuration you wish to own. ????

Look at the location-N.Y.

The OP may not have the option of ordering the required parts to convert a DAO to DA/SA w/o contracting a licensed g'smith or getting A.Cuomo's permission in the Blue Territory of NY.

The same may apply if the OP decided to send the pistol for conversion back to SIG in N.H.

I live in NY, and I can assure the OP that both those activities are completely legal.

There's no rule/law against converting it yourself, unless you're converting it to something illegal, like full-auto, etc. The only other possible issue is changing calibers, which would require you to get your permit amended to show the new caliber.

If you send it to SIG, they will send you a shipping label and arrange for FedEx to pick it up from you. When it comes back, you have to be home and sign for it personally, but no FFL is needed.

I can definitely do the conversion in NY . I actually found another one in another place for the same price with not a mark on it and a older one with the frame made in germany which may not matter but it makes me feel better lol . Plus this comes with 3 mags vs the other that only had one so I left a deposit on a new Christmas present lol . Maybe I'll like the DAO set up

Good for you!

Even though I'm a DA/SA guy I would not convert that pistol... I'd leave it as is. Really nothing wrong with double action only... I just wonder if it is not really a DAK trigger. does't matter... buy it.

Number of folks here really like DAK.... it is a novel idea with really no problem but I really don't see the advantage to it... Oh, by the way, I have two P239's with a DAK trigger in my P239 stable.

the one thing I don't care for on the P239 is the factory grip... even with my medium hands it seems too small... I've converted all mine to a thicker finger groove grip. If anybody here ever wants a pair of P239 factory grips just let me know.

I read somewhere that the hammer on the 239 DAO is the same as the single/double action . The DAK hammer is a different so being that

I think from what I've read I should be able to change it if I decide to . It seems to be around 2003 production so I'm hoping it will work . Thanks for the feedback looking forward to shooting it .
