A friend has a S&W Shield plus. About 500 rounds through it. Is it normal for there to be a little "wiggle" in the ejector? Nothing major, maybe a few thousandth of an inch. Upon assembly, and inspection, it's not moving enough to stop the slide from going back into battery. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. I never even noticed. Maybe you're over-analyzing things. Does it work? Is it accurate? If the answer is yes, relax. If it's a problem, it will break and S&W will fix it. If it doesn't, it doesn't.

Fred, I'd like to think it was that simple. The gun fires, and it's accurate. It's also a friend of mine's CCW, She's a Cook Co States Attorney- one of the good ones. She's put more than a few bad guys in prison. I'd hate like hell for that gun to go "click" instead of "bang" when she needs it. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should |
My 1.0 that has fired a couple of thousand isn't like that. Both the extractor and ejector are solid as a rock, no wiggle at all with my finger. You may want to call S&W and ask them for some reassurance. They are very helpful and willing to take a look if there is any doubt at all, from my limited experience with them. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

I can feel a tiny bit of wiggle in the ejector on my 2.0. You can feel it more than you can see it. A couple of thousandths maybe, not more than that. I've got about 600 rounds through it and have had zero malfunctions. The extractor is rock solid stable.

I have two and they both wiggle a little and both work fine.

I had a shield, liked the thin, light weight. It went click, instead of bang. Fortunately, at a range. Unfortunately, I hadn't owned it for long, less than 200 factory rounds through it before the frame split, rendering it unable to fire. S&W refused to honor the warranty, said they'd offer me a replacement. The only catch was that I had to pay them more than I'd paid for it retail to get my "replacement" pistol. If I hurried and took their "replacement offer," they'd cover shipping. It's still in my safe, still useless. I'm glad I didn't have to find out how useless when pressing that trigger to defend myself. I found the crack, which was hard to detect, after some time online, and found others who had the same, identical crack. S&W refused to warranty any of those, too. Shield is not my friend. Neither is S&W.

My few experiences with their customer service have been the exact opposite of yours. Could there be a little more to the story? ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

Down the Rabbit Hole |
Sounds like you got the Customer Service Rep. from HELL. I can promise you that is not the norm. I would be willing to bet that employee is no longer with the company. I've never had a bad experience with S&W. As a matter of fact, S&W has had the best customer service of any firearm company I've dealt with. I would call them again. I bet they will take care of it for you. At this point, you have very little to loose. Thanks for the information gentleman! I’ll pass the info along. It just seemed odd... every other ejector is solid, and no movement; glock, colts, even other S&W’s... ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. No.
No, they won't. I shot the pistol at a range, and it quit working, literally. Several of us examined it, nothing was obvious as to the cause, other than the trigger draw bar wasn't moving properly. I did a little research online at the time, and came up with a number of other identical reports, each of which had the same problem and set their shield to S&W, after calling customer service. One of the reports had pictures of a crack, hard to see, which extended from the mag release cutout to a corner of the cutout for the trigger, in the frame. Each customer was told that S&W would send the pistol to their "met lab" for inspection. In each case, the customer was told that S&W couldn't determine the reason for the failure, but the default blame would be ammunition, and the customer must have, therefore, used faulty ammunition. In each case, the customer was offered a "replacement" pistol, charged at more than full retail. I called S&W, and was given identical instructions. Send it in. Shortly thereafter, I was told it was sent to the "met lab" for inspection. Shortly after that, I was told that no cause could be found for the failure, but that S&W's standard practice was to blame ammunition, if no cause could be found for the failure (although I'd had less than 200 factory rounds through the pistol, with no signs of overpressure, case failure, or other ammunition related problem, and certainly no squib rounds). I was told that as a gesture, S&W would replace my pistol for me under warranty, and that all I'd need to do is pay for a new one. The price they offered was more than I'd paid, retail. Unimpressed. But it played out exactly as others who reported the same thing. I'm not sure how sending it to them again would fix that. They already made clear that they won't honor their warranty. They're not going to send it to their "met lab" again just so they can find nothing wrong and still refuse to warranty the pistol...or perhaps to claim again they were offering me a "replacement" pistol at more than retail. If there were a way to plastic weld that crappy plastic frame back together, it might keep running. It sits in the safe, where it has been for years. Just dustier.

The current company calling itself s&w should have excellent customer service. Look at all the practice they get. Do new s&w guns come with a return shipping label? Regards 18DAI 7+1 Rounds of hope and change
