Nitride slide refinishing
I have a couple of slides that I would like to get refinished. I’m not a fan of ceracote and would prefer a nitride or similar finish. Who does good work with reasonable turn around times?

I've never heard of anyone sending their own parts in to be Nitride coated. Only companies that sell their products with the coating already applied. I do know that their is a company in the Tampa Bay area that does Nitride coating but don't know anything else about them as far as cost or quality of their service.

If they're SIG slides, SIG offers Nitron refinishing. You will have to give them a call. I think it's around $100 per slide.

Sig does a good job with Nitride. I had two P226 that came out factory new after they refinished them.

Another vote for SIG. Excellent results, and you can still claim factory finish.

These slides was original natural stainless that I had SIG put their DLC Nitron on.

Nitron is IonBond DLC, not a nitriding treatment.

That would be the best way to go, though. I’ve read comments from several reputable custom 1911 ’smiths who recommend against sending guns in for aftermarket nitriding, as the temperatures reached during the process can ruin the original heat treatment (and warp and embrittle small parts).

Yes. But OP asked about nitride "or similar finish". So, factory Nitron is recommended. Wink

Yeah, I accidentally replied to the wrong post. Meant to reply to the comment that “SIG does a nice job with Nitride,” which appears to mistake Nitron for nitriding.

In any case, I agree that Nitron (IonBond) is the best way to go.

Take a look at this company.
They come highly recommend around here.

Sent a M18 slide to SIG to get redone, no complaints and the turnaround was pretty decent compared to the industry average.

As well though of as they are, they don't offer what the OP is looking for, or anything really similar.
