I'm currently in the market for an LCR 9mm, and the prices are astronomical. I seem to recall them running in the region of 450 new a while back, and what I'm seeing now is almost 700 new and 600+ used. The .22 models, which used to be significantly cheaper, are running in the 450-500 region now.
Is this just a result of supply/demand and the recent pandemic buying? Or is there something going on in the revolver world that I completely missed?
Are there any other good, reliable, subcompact 9mm revolvers I can look at other than the LCR that aren't suffering from the same pricing crisis? I want one for a specific role.

I think revolver sales are up , due to many people who never had a gun prior to the insanity/political climate wanted something simple to operate and the revolver doesn't get much more simple or reliable. Some of us who like revolvers, want to increase our collection, so that is another reason for the supply out there. I am not sure if there are any manufacturing issues though. Revolvers,in general, have been harder and harder to find in my neck of the woods and prices are increasing accordingly. A few stores by me,when they have them, want $500-550 for a simple S&W .38 revolvers like a 442,etc. and they used to be only $350.
I have run into a few good deals but you need to be able to jump on them quickly. I was looking recently at a Ruger Talo edition .357 SP101 with 4" barrel, fiber optic grooved front sight/rear and nice wood grips for $575, at a local shop. It was "used" but I don't think the owner ever shot it as it had the original oil on it still. It was part of a collection/estate sale. I was looking for a snubby and wound up getting a S&W .38 Bodyguard w/o laser for $419 instead, as it served my purpose more. I don't know when, if ever prices will come down again or for that matter, availability.
Well color me stupid. My wife wanted a revolver and I didn’t want yet another type of ammo so I got her an LCR 9mm in 2016. I just looked at the receipt and I paid $600 (including tax).
Guess I really overpaid

I've been hunting for a trail gun in .44 mag or .45 Colt lately, and prices are insane....when you can find anything at all. Because of total lack of supply locally, I've been watching GunBroker, and prices are just stupid. The Redhawk in 45Colt/45ACP that I scoffed at spending $850 on last year is now going for $12-1300 online. S&W mountain guns are similar, as are any short-barrelled 629s and 625s. Even the model 69 with the goofy two-piece barrel is hard to find, and usually msrp or above.
It's like everything else in the world these days...they're not making enough to satisfy demand.

I think the 9mm and .327 models were always more expensive, the prices you are quoting were for the plain run-of-the-mill .38 Special. I don’t think they make a whole lot of those non .38/.357 models either which makes them more expensive and harder to find.

IIRC the 9mm, 327 and 357 models of the LCR were always more expensive because they are all metal. Other calibers have polymer frames, much less costly to produce.

Ruger just had a big price hike according the manager at my LGS. I was working with him to buy some firearms for my Club and I was shocked at how high Ruger pricing had climbed.

I think your recall might be off some. It took me a year to get a LCR 9mm after they came out. The cheapest I ever found was $525, most shops around here were selling them for around $550+ and they were few and far between, same with the 327. That was 5 years ago. The 9mm LCR has always cost more than the LCR in 38 special +P.
Ah ok. Maybe I was always looking at the wrong calibers for prices then. Or maybe a little of both. I was looking at the wrong calibers AND the prices went up across the board.
It rankles me that I'm gonna end up giving in and paying more for a little 9mm revolver than I paid for any of my P320s/365s, but if that's what I gotta do for this project then that's what I gotta do.
Thanks for the info guys

Apology for salt in your wound, but I bought a used LCR .357 for $350 (IIRC) about a year ago. I almost did not buy it because I thought it was overpriced!
