Hello fellow Sigfans, I am new here but not new to Sigs. I currently have a 229 and a 227. I’ve had quite a few through out the years but have lost some taste for the DA/SA trigger. Which brings me to my question for you. I just acquired a Gen 1 226 X5 in 40. I’m not wanting to change out the caliber, it’s my only .40, but not really a big deal. It’s been used, but not abused, that being said, has anyone ever made a blue moon or scandic clone? It doesn’t seem to be so collectible like the blue moon etc that I would care that much about the affecting the value, I bought it to enjoy it. Does anyone know if it can be converted to SAO? Any thoughts on what it could use? I’m sure a good going through by Sig. Thoughts?

Welcome to the Forum With the proper GunSmith and a large application of money almost anything can be done The AllRound is such a great gun why would you want to convert it to SAO? The The X5 SAO trigger and the AllRound's single action break are almost identical. If your heart is set on a SAO your best bet is to sell the AllRound to someone that likes DA/SA and buy an X5 Comp or L1 I have AllRounds in 9MM and 357SIG. I bought them with the intent of carrying them I also own X5 & X6 L1s for target and competition shooting. These are chambered in 9MM and 45ACP I even own one of the X5 Tactical TB pistols. These are made with an alloy frame and are much lighter. My Allrounds might be convertible to SAO with all the parts. I say might because a very tight pin that has been ground to size is filling the pivot hole where the single action safety would mount. I have never tried to see if it is easily removable as this conversion never occurred to me Yes, I am a BIG fan of what came out of the MasterShop in Germany. It was hard for me to justify the cost of that first one, but once I did, I was hooked ------------------------------------------------------------------ NRA Benefactor . . . You make some good points on the SAO. I’d like to mill/polish the slide like the Equinox, and polish the barrel where there is some wear. Then mag funnel and mag bases. Maybe grips eventually, just not a whole lot of options I like on grips. I’d like a blackish wood. I’m still trying to figure out how to upload a pic so I can post it.

An Equinox style look will require getting the slide refinished. It is not hard to accomplish. When I built THOR (LS 1911 chambered for 10MM Auto) we cerecoated the slide in a matte flat grey and then polished the side flats on 800 grit emory cloth that was flat on the table. The matte grey and stainless is not as striking as black is, but I wanted something more subdued. That two-tone concept actually started on a Smith & Wesson Model 3566 back in the early 1992 Most all manufacturers have produced a autoloader or two since them with a similar finish The magazine funnels are still pretty easy to get. The Factory offered silver, black, blue and red as parts However ORIGINAL SIG base pads are not easily found. They used to be available in matte silver, polished silver, blue, black and red. There is a seller on one of the parts websites that makes a very close approximation of the base plate. I do not like the look of MecGars X-family magazines The later factory Gen-1 grips (not NILLS) were on the CDNN website for $19.99. You might want to grab one if they are still available. I bought several spares to keep on hand ------------------------------------------------------------------ NRA Benefactor . . . Certified Instructor . . . I wouldn’t redo the slide, just polish the sides like the 1911. My 229 is black with the polished slide. Those grips are for SAO, I can’t find any DA/SA grips that I really like.

The AllRound is a terrific pistol on it's own. SAO? Buy a second one (always the answer)

Can you tell me where you found those grips, and I’m having a hard time figuring out the base pad I need. I also can’t find any additional mags, any info on where I could find these? Thanks!

I believe the Mec-Gar P226 X5 .40 14RD magazines at Top Gun Supply will be the correct magazines.

My other Sig is a Steyr. |
Thinking it would be harder to find the parts than another pistol. You may be able to get a Legion P226 for less than the price of the L1 trigger assembly.

These are the Factory Walnut X5 grips. They only fit the SAOs, Sorry. https://www.cdnnsports.com/gun...alnut-grips-sao.html For the AllRound you will need to get the NILLs grips. I do not have time this week, but I may have a spare set of Nills AllRound X5 grips in my workbench. I will try and check it out next week I bought two of the Mec-Gar X5 style magazines and did not like the look of the base plates. They are more squarish but the Mec-Gar Factory website only provides a side view. This view is from TGS and shows it in it's true light I think I kept them anyway These are the bases that look the closest to original +2 base plates that I have found for the X5/X6 pistols. They are made to work on the Italian made 17 round magazines. It does not matter if the mags are marked SIG or Mec-Gar These are available in many colors including most of the original Factory colors. https://usa-shop.armanov.com/s...category=79#attr=123 These are all original SIG X-5 L1 magazines ------------------------------------------------------------------ NRA Benefactor . . .
