**Update - maybe it’s ok after all** Hmmm... new P220 Legion finish issue?
I wonder if it could be inadequate degreasing causing the finish to not adhere, or if they sandblast, too smooth a surface due to too fine a grit, which is prep.

It’s the lack of QC that is the issue. I would love to look at their process sheets/work orders to see how many specific QC steps are noted.

Every manufacturing step should have a first piece inspection associated with it and the entire lot should be inspected after every major operation.

Well, at least that’s the way it was done when I worked in QA/QC/QE.


That is the way it is supposed to be done. The individual doing each assembly step should inspect each piece as they do their assembly and a final check before passing it to the next process step.

The QC mob needs to relax or maybe Sig should hire an oil boy to soak these down before they are boxed up.

99.9% of the "Sig Legion Finish Problems" could be solved in a similar fashion. It is just the nature of the PVD finish to look very different with the presence of oil.

A Legion with a finish complaint? Noooooo....

I thought you might've been griping about that ding in the alloy on the edge of your frame. It shows up much more obviously in picture form once the PVD finish has been oiled and evened out.

Yes a bottle of gun oil and a rag are our friends whenever we receive a new Legion in from SIG. SOP when receiving those guns and prepping them for the display case.

Yes, I noticed that as well. I know I will ding a gun up though so a tiny one there doesn’t bother me.

I’ve yet to wear the finish off of a gun though, hence my concern. Wasn’t aware the Legion finish reacted like that though.

Mine gets used and carried a lot and so far the PVD finish is holding up great and only shows very slight buff marks where it rubs on the holster.
I had a couple of freak out moment though in the first week before I learned you had to rub it a bit to make it purdy.
Congrats on owning what I consider to be the best P220 Sig has made to date.

I happened to check out Sig's website and they have ten quality control positions open so hopefully they'll step up thier game some.
