Not-a-Sig 1911
Although at a glance you might think so, but it's not.

This one took me a long time to finish. I bought the slide/frame/barrel as part of a kit from Caspian back in 2009. Caspian called it the eXtreme Recon (XR). Word on the street was they were “over-runs” from the original Sig GSR 1911, and that Caspian put a ball-cut and an extra set of forward cocking serrations in to distinguish the “XR Kit” from the GSR. Caspian did, in fact, make the slide/frame combo for the original GSR, and if you look at the XR compared to the original GSR, you can see the family resemblance.

It sat in the safe/on the bench/in the vice for a long time, slowly accumulating specific parts until I finally got serious and put it all together. After I got it running (a mix of stainless and blued parts), I sent it out to have it Cerakoted Graphite Black. After the Cerakote, I lapped the slide to frame fit, and once it was "wet ice" smooth, I reassembled everything. I can't believe it took me so long to finally get around to it. I absolutely love the gun.

I usually don't care for Cerakote shaken-bake but the Cerakoted Graphite Black looks really nice on your build.

Get to shooting it!

Nice! My first production run Caspian GSR has a higher serial number than yours. I have it blurred out, but mine is GS02691. I've got well over 10k rounds through this one. Bought it back in 2004.

^^^That's a sharp looking pistol Tony. Though considered blasphemous by some, I always like the look of the GSR, 'manhole cover' and all. Cool

Very nice pistol, Tony!

Mine is a "manhole cover" slide, as well, but it didn't come with the "cover" and not being able to find one, I had a 'smith fill the hole in. (I even bought a used/abused GSR slide just for the screw, but it didn't fit.) He did a great job, and you can't tell it was ever there.

Yeah, that's great work! I added an Ed Brown beavertail and had to reshape the back of the frame to get it to fit. That was my early days of gunsmithing.

I also added an arched S&A MSH with the flared magwell.

I've got some TruGlo sights coming for mine this week and I'll be church carrying this over the fall and winter here in FL.

I do need to get into building 1911's at some point in time. It seems like the natural progression of my gunsmithing carreer.

Here are mine. Both have had additional work done; checkering on front and back strap, night sights, barrel crown and some smoothing of of the barrel bushing.

Very early, #GS00521. Note the curved cut around the slide catch.

A later version #GS02153. Note the straight cut around the slide catch.

I never realized how much the slide profile looks like the Legion. Check out the front cocking serrations, the ball cut on the slide, etc. Cool.

It's the intended SIG "DNA" that was designed into the GSR.

Beautiful 1911, looks awesome. Speaking of GSRs, though. Just checked mine. I have the stainless carry, and the serial number is lower than the ones mentioned. Like, number 85. Lol. So I guess I got a really early one in the carry version. Big Grin.
