Many of the ones coming up for sale are police trade-ins overseas (Israel, I hear). The one I scopped up in late June had been a safe queen here as it had no markings nor holster wear.
I know the dealer and grabbed a 6906 there, they were from Puerto Rico. Fantastic deal and great guns.

I’ve always been a fan of the 3rd gen Smith’s especially the 4566. Not sure if this was mentioned but I read this last spring, fingers crossed S&W indeed relaunches the 3rd gen line!

I would be very pleased if they brought back 3rd Gen models. In the past couple months I have picked up a 5906, 6904, 3913, 3914 and most recently a 3904. Great guns

I would absolutely buy a new 5906 as soon as they became available if S&W ever decided to manufacture them again. Couldn’t get my money out fast enough and would probably buy 2 or 3. If they made a 4566 TSW like what WVSP ordered 20 years ago, I would buy at least 2 of them.

Always wanted a 5906 with adjustable sights because early in my gun buying life they starred in Reservoir Dogs. Much like the Beretta 92 in so many movies. Recently found one at the Harrisburg Gun Show for $700, but there was also a S&W 686-3 with a six inch barrel for $750 OTD. I couldn't swing both and already have a bunch of hicap 9mms, so I chose the wheelgun. I can wait. One will show up again.

Back in May, S&W asked to name a gun to resurrect. Now they're telling us to choose wisely, that only one Gen 3 pistol can come back.
I'd take the 5906 just as they have it depicted with the rounded trigger guard, no optic cuts, no rail, but with the adjustable sights.
Well, presuming those model numbers designate calibers I'm with the 5906. But if the 4013 can be had in 9mm that's the one.

Interesting that we're being given four caliber choices for our vote...went with the 5906.

I want a 4506 with Novaks and the integral rail. Barring that, give me the 5906 as shown.
A Perpetual Disappointment...

Modern 5906 with the CHP style rail and optic cut. Decock only.
And a steady supply of spare magazines and parts.
I have no plans to buy any new guns. If Smith comes out with this close to what I want, I’ll start shooting one in USPSA.

Yes please. This would be exactly what I would ask for. I can live without the optic cut out but if they were going to bring one back, it probably would t be too hard to do so. I would buy even an old school 5906 but a CHP style rail, decock only 5906 would be exactly what I want. And if they’d make a 4566 in the same fashion as well, let’s just say that my wallet would be taking a pretty good sized hit.

They did make a small batch of what you specified minus the optic cut since it wasn’t a big thing back then. It just had standard Novaks and the integral CHP style rail. A few of them made it out into the wild.

I'm pretty fond of that 5906. I'd buy one of those if they came back out.
Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

Would be great but really can't happen. Retooling whole production lines, new machines would be a huge cost. Then they would have to dust off the old specs for the particular model and try to reproduce. They know that after the above, a new 5906 would have to sell for $1700 to $2,000 which would cause very low sales. Just don't see how this is a good business move

It'd be a long shot, but there's still a slim chance of it working out.
For example, Colt has managed some minor success with their re-release of the Python at around $1300-$1500.
They're not going to be selling Glock numbers, but they could manage to fill a small niche.

I would be interested in that since I recently picked up a 6906 (loving that gun so far) to go with the 3913 I picked up a couple months ago. Bring back the 3rd gen goodness!

They can also simplify the design like Colt did with the Python and Sig did with the P210. It did turn into a Rube Goldberg machine towards the end of its life with all the different featured S&W put on.
