Believe it or not, it's actually DA/SA with a bobbed hammer and the Sig style decocker S&W had to stop using, and yes it is quite smooth. It is a boat anchor at 40oz for only 11+1, but smoothness isn't this gun's problem.

^^I didn't catch the decocker when first looking it over, was thinking DAO. Will need to do a little research on that model. Actually, I went to another LGS this morning looking for more 3rd Gen Smiths.

The KCPD 4026 production was 1400 approximately. There's a couple of YouTubes on it. Mlazarus, I watched your linked video, too.

It didn't last too long because Sig sued them over the decocker and Smith had to drop it. Just like the 1076, the decocker mechanism wasn't the most robust and looked like a quick workaround for a contract.

OK, so all this talk about the 69 series guns (and Para's pic) has me jonesing for a 6904 or 6906. But man, where do you find mags for them? Just the auction sights I guess?

+1 on keepshooting.com for the compact magazines (669, 6906, etc.). That's who I placed an order with. Was watching a video of a fellow with a 669, and he cited a viewer comment leading him to the source. They are in PA.

My 10mm 1026 is a great gun. I had a few different 9mm models and let them all get away, this is the only 3rd gen I kept.

I was surprised at how heavy the 5906 was the first time I handled one. I wasn’t expecting the heft it had for its size, but I liked how the weight made it feel tough and indestructible. I don’t have any experience with previous generations, but the triggers in my 3rd generation pistols have a really smooth travel in DA, and a nice break in DA/SA. I also like the short reset in SA. I later picked up the 6906 because it was smaller, lighter, and accepted the 5906 magazines. I’ve had both of these guns for over 25 years and have no plans to ever get rid of them.

I’ve replaced the recoil springs and mainsprings as a matter of maintenance and haven’t had anything fail or break on these guns until the trigger play spring in the 5906 gave out last month. It was the first time it broke so I suspect it was from fatigue and old age. The only other thing I’ve changed out periodically were the grips when they really got dinged up.

These were great pistols from a bygone era unfortunately. I saw so many come and go from my safe that I wish I kept. I had 4566 CQB's and the PC 5906 that shot like custom match pistols. And I always found reliability on them to be 100%.
At my local dealer right now there is a 4013 TSW that's unfired and looks like it just left the factory. Its the first TSW version they ever released. No rail, and in .40 because I think it was released around 1997 or 98 and .40 was the rage.
I came close to grabbing it but as some have said mags are hard to find and Smith doesn't support them with parts anymore so I passed.

Best multi target shooting I ever did was with a gun much the same as Para pictured. Loved that thing, but it belonged to the college LE program I was in, so it couldn't come home with me.

My enablers win again, just purchased a 6906 from an auction site. After reading more about it, and watching reviews, just couldn't resist.

Congrats, and welcome to the club! I've found myself wanting another. My magazine order from keepshopping.com should arrive this afternoon.

ETA: the new mags arrived. Nickel finished steel, not blued or satin finished. Out of the wrapper, two of them seemed pretty tight in the well before the magazine catch clicked. Maybe just being "new"? Proof testing them perhaps next Tuesday.

For the 6900 series, don't forget there are both blue and stainless factory 20 round magazines. These are the same as the 20 rounders for the 5900 series, but they have the insertion stop at the correct spot for the shorter grip. The 5900 series mags will work, of course, but without a proper insertion stop

As well as flush fit 15 round 59xx magazines with a sleeve adapter.

Sexy pieces for sure. A buddy I'm still close with taught me to shoot back around 1990 with his 5906. I'd like one of those 3rd Gen's in 10mm.

I have personally owned a 5904, 6946 (which is a DAO) and a 3913 Ladysmith. (Yes, real men like ladies' guns.) The latter gun was my favorite of them. I wish I could have kept it. (Don't ask.)

Rogue and Para shared pretty darn good info on another source of magazines, adapter sleeves; I have Robertson's bookmarked in case there is trouble with the new ones on hand. Worst case I'll get adapter sleeves and run my 15 rd. Mec-Gars from the 915 on the 6906. Wishing I had held onto the old 908; it would be somewhat comparable to the M&P Shield of today. Lubed up the 915 to take to the range with the 6906; should be a good time.
