The bug bit me for a compact DA/SA in 9mm the other week. As things happen, I spotted a S&W sitting in a display case but pressed for time I had to bail out that day. I went back this morning; a model 6906, which was not a police trade-in, and with very light use. One magazine. Dry as a bone for lubrication. Just cleaned it up good and ordered three magazines. Range time will happen when the new magazines arrive.

No pics yet Frown but it's an early one without the Novak sights and has the squared trigger guard.

ETA: I've decided that this Smith will be my 249th birthday of America present to myself.

This is only my second one of that series on hand. I have a 915 from my much younger days when the 5906 was what I wanted, but my wallet said 915. It's a bit subjective, but other than being perhaps three ounces heavier than a G19 the 6906 just seems so...right.

Had a 908 and 457 way back, but they wouldn't run well. I was in the Wayback Machine one day and surmised the problem was me; I was using Rem Oil, not CLP or a wet lube for them.

Yep. The 659 and 6906 were the G19 of their day, before the G19 caught on.

Great guns.

I carried the single stack little brother (3913) for quite a few years as my off duty gun early on in my LE career.

Para,

The “blue” in those grips is just a trick of the light correct? Blue would, apparently, look great on that gun. Smile

A 3913 would have been a very good one to have found, also. Was just looking at a site, the 6906 is 1.5 ounces heavier and double stack (with a bit longer beavertail) than the 3913. S&W made so many gems of a firearm with that series, for sure. Perhaps a few dogs, but mostly gems. If reports/reviews/comments on YT of the 915 are correct it was a huge seller for police markets here and abroad.

i have "several" 2nd and 3rd gen S&Ws autos with some multiples of each.

To me they are the height of hand guns in the 80s to 90s.

Just last week at a local auction picked up a 3913 with two mags for $380.00, but others I have purchased were much higher in price.

My 6906 was my first, and is still my favorite handgun. I even prefer it over my p228s, which I consider the best 9mms out there.

I have went back to carrying my CS9, I have newer stuff and while the CS9 is larger than my 43 and 365, it just feels better in my hand than either. I foolishly let a couple 3913s go years ago and wish I still had at least one of them.

I don’t have one, but I really like those 3rd Gen Smiths. They feel great in my hand, probably even a bit better than my 220, which is about perfect. I’d love to have a 1066 or a 4566. Heck, maybe I’ll see if my buddy will sell me his 4006.

I'm sure it would detract from the nostalgia, but I would love to see smith make a series of new production 3rd gens.

I got rid of my 6906, still have a 4006 though.

Two of my favorite guns I wish I never sold were a 5906TSW and a 4566TSW. Both had some of the smoothest stock DA/SA triggers I've ever shot, almost as good as an LTT Beretta or Cajun CZ. They also had very short reset triggers before Sig started putting them on pistols.

I did end up with a nice 4026 that belonged to a retired officer at my department. It's in great shape and is still a shooter, but after I shoot my last 4 boxes of .40, it's becoming a pure safe queen.

DanH., I bet that your 4026 DAO is a lot smoother to shoot than my SIG P290 (last range day I gave up on it after 20 rounds). Looking forward to range time next week with the 6906. New mags should arrive this weekend.
