I was killing some time at a local gun shop, and asked them if they had any 10mm handguns in stock. Lo and behold, they had three, a revolver (which I wasn’t interested in) and two Sigs, a P220 Legion and a P320 XTEN.

Got to say, I was disappointed in the trigger on the P220 Legion (which is an SAO). The trigger was exactly like when you have the hammer cocked on a Sig DA/SA, a long take up until you hit the wall. The trigger pull was heavier than I expected, but it did have no discernible over travel.

The XTEN was your typical full sized P320, good trigger for a striker, but what impressed me the most was the grip. Sig has reduced the radius where the web of your hand wraps around the grip. Having smaller hands than average, I find the XTEN grip very comfortable, more so than the 9mm versions. Only thing I don’t understand is why there isn’t a tungsten infused frame for the XTEN. If there had been an XTEN rental to try out, I’d probably have walked out with one.

I had the XTen and while the grip was great (I have small hands), shooting it was not pleasant for me. The recoil was fine it just was not comfortable. I sold it and bought a P220 Legion da/sa and love the gun. It is comfortable and very easy to shoot. It has been a while since I shot da/sa so my da needs work but it is a keeper.

I had an XTEN on layaway at my LGS. I became concerned about potential mag problems, specifically when loaded with some the hard cast offering from Double Tap and Buffalo Bore. There were far too many videos on line showing this to be more than an isolated incident.

I ended up cancelling that layaway and going in a different direction with 10mm. It's a shame, because it felt great in my hand and just seemed to be the answer I was looking for in a woods gun. If it cannot consistently shoot the type of load I want 10mm for in the first place, then what's the point?
