Yeah, that M14 video guy... |
Had a chance to take out my new to me, like-new P226 Combat I won from the February installment of "Solve The Bible riddle" challenge that 12131 puts on from time to time. It ran flawlessly and my daughter really liked shooting it. She said if she could fit it in her pocket, it would have been her new carry piece. Thanks again Q! This one is going to get shot a lot. I may try to find some slimmer grips though. This one feels a little fatter than my 1990 P226 with the old style grips. Tony. when i looked at the picture above that is the first thing I thought. I had purchased a few years back a 226 with the E2 grips and then later picked up a M-25 with the same 'desert brown' factory grips and really did not like them..... I compromised to a degree and put G10s on it... not as slim as the E2s but much better than the thick factory ones: My Native American Name: "Runs with Scissors"

I won a 228 from Q last Spring and it shoots great also. I also have a 229 and I put the E2 grips on and I much prefer those.

You guys are lucky. Also that two-tone 226 is sick. In a good way.

What about the Hogue G10 pirañas, or the Hogue aluminum grips are they slimmer? Tony. Owner, TonyBen, LLC, Type-07 FFL www.tonybenm14.com (Site under construction). e-mail: tonyben@tonybenm14.com

Thanks. I bought it from a forum member years ago who is local to me. It was refinished by CCR. It had some intermittent misfires and shot horribly to the left so I had to drift the rear sight to the right. I replaced all the springs and upgraded the hammer spring housing to the version that was available in the early 2000's. I recently revisited it and I figured out there was something wrong with the original takedown lever that was not really allowing the slide to lock all the way forward. With the slide all the way forward, the barrel was completely engaged into the slide but there was fore and aft play of about maybe then thousandths of an inch when there should be none at all. This slight play was causing intermittent misfires. I had some spare takedown levers and I swapped one in and the fore and aft play has gone away. I tested it yesterday and the misfires are gone but my daughter kept having misfeeds. I never had any issues at all but every time she shot it, it would jam. I finally took it and limp-wristed the heck out of it and finally got it to misfeed. Went back to holding it solid and it worked fine. I wonder if the new recoil spring I used was not playing well with the 115 grain FMJ American Eagle I was using. Tony. You have the original anodized frame models there. I understand they wear a different finish now. Maybe dont look as good as yours. I thought someday to have all 3 Combats, P226, 220 and the 229. Enjoy benny6.

Is that so? I also looked at current models and they have a long extractor now versus the older short version I was used to. And am I correct in understanding that the combat model I have has a chrome lined bore? Tony. Yes sir, should be chrome lined. That green anodize is beautiful. Think they use Ceracote finish now and its more FDE like. Also, your Combat has the original tan grips keeping the traditional P226 grip profile. The new model IIRC, has E2. Take good care of it because they dont make 'em like that any more. A fine pistol if there ever was.

Now the P220 Combat model came with 10 round blackened stainless steel magazines with a cool sleeve like spacer at the bottom of the mag tube. It looked cool and probably kept one from seating the mags too deep in the well. Least wise I think that was its intended purpose. I had several of those original blackened mags but sold them too another Member. Believe Sig offered 8 round blackened stainless mags for the P220 model also. Then there is that nagging at me P229 model. I should have bought it.

That 2-tone P226 is bad ass. I've been looking at doing this scheme for my 2003 P226 LE trade-in that I want to fix up. This seals the deal for me. Thanks for the quality pics and enjoy your P226 Combat! Congrats!

I'll be sending you an Ohio National Guard 870 to give the same black treatment soon. Mine was pretty scratched up, but for $230, it was a no-brainer. Tony. Owner, TonyBen, LLC, Type-07 FFL www.tonybenm14.com (Site under construction). e-mail: tonyben@tonybenm14.com
