Just for everyone’s information, I looked up on google “was a 1996 Sig 229 front sights pinned” And this is what comes up “ Yes, the 1996 SIG P229 did have a pinned front sight. Early SIG P229 models, including the 1996 version, featured a front sight that was pinned in place on the slide. ”

It's not "pinned". I'm going to out on a limb and say that the rear sight, if from the same source, also has two such dots on top, one on each side. A lot of early night sights had such dots on top. Some folks call them "vent holes". The AI answer cites SF and ST as sources. The SF source leads right back to this thread, so that's not answering anything. The ST source has nothing on the 1996 P229 pinned front night sight. Here is a pic grab from the internet of the rear night sight showing the two dots on top. ![]() Q

Ah, yes: the dots. I had forgotten about them, but now that I think about it I seem to recall they resulted in a lot of discussion years ago. Although it varies among individual guns, it’s often possible to see light through the small gap between the top of the slide and the bottom of the front sight blade. If so, a pin would be visible, but I’d bet a nickel that it’s not a pin. My armorer manuals going back 20+ years don’t show any pins in the sights. This message has been edited. I’m with Q, as soon as I saw the pic, I see the end of a tritium vial. Iirc they glopped some glue in, shove the tube in and the hole is to let extra glop escape, then is wiped off.
