How to replace pinned 229 front sight
I have a 1996 229 that has a pinned front sight. The sights were originally night sights now long dead. I have a sight pusher which would be no help on a pinned sight. Can I replace it? If not Im open to suggestions on where to send it for new night sights.
Thanks in advance for the help folks!

Got a pic? Is it a blind hole or does it go all the way through the slide? if the latter, drive it out from below. If it's a blind hole you'll have to drill it out.

Is the sight installed through a dovetail and then pinned? If so, carefully drill out the pin and replace the old sight with one that matches the dovetail. If you are going to send it out, try Novak.

I'd send the slide to Sig.
I can't think of a better place to replace the sight..

Never seen a P229 with a factory pinned front sight. Strange. But, as noted above, send it to SIG.

Has anyone ever seen a production pinned front sight on a 229? I would like to see a picture of such an animal. And some evidence it was a factory install.

I haven’t. The few pinned sights I’ve come across, usually on 1911s, had the hole drilled completely through the slide and the pin was easily punched out.

I can’t seem to post a picture currently. If you google were 1996 sig 229 front sights pinned it will tell you they were. I purchased this sig new with night sights. Interesting they were #8 sights on both.
The pin does not go through the slide. I’m going to give sig a call and see if they can replace them

The pin will shear off if the sight is punched out. Not telling you to try that, but…

You can create an account at postimages dot org and when the pic is uploaded it’ll give you the data for “thumbnail for forum”. You copy that nd paste it into the white area of a response.

The forum doesn’t host pics-they have to be hosted elsewhere

I have a P229 from ~1995 with night sights. There's no pin in mine, and I've never seen one with one. I too would love to see pictures, as this is something new.

For future reference, you can click on a member's name, then Public Profile and see their email address.

You can send it to me if you would prefer, and I'll post it.

Wow, I'm quessing the sight was loose and this was a lame fix.

If you have the equipment try drilling the pin but not through, then tap it and screw in the bolt you tap for, then pull it with a mini slide hammer.

You need a machine shop.
Good luck.

I envisioned a roll pin. Drill as much of it as you can (prolly require a machine shop) and punch the sight out.
