i would like to install a C&S extended safety lever. I've dabbled in doing some parts replacement on various pistols but am a little leery about messing with the safety. Anybody know of a smith in Florida or whom I can send the pistol in to??

A friend of mine recommended Cole in Naples or CW Gunworks around Miami.

Many years ago I put a C+S extended safety in a Browning. It dropped right in with no fitting. If you can disassemble and install the new safety yourself try it out. If it passes the safety checks you're good. If there are problems then you can get a gunsmith to do the final fitting.

HGWTJWH- you were lucky that there was no fitting required.

I've had to fit 3 or 4 BHP safeties- 2 C&S and modify a couple of NOS OEM safeties after replacing sear/hammer.


In fitting, it can be challenging if you are not familiar with the internal designs and you don't take the time to file a couple strokes, check and repeat. [so you don't remove too much]

On the C&S safeties, just remember to put the gun in a gallon ziplock bag before removing the safety. In my experience the plunger and spring have launched and required half an hour of searching before i got lucky and found them.

The factory safeties don't have this issue, but aren't as good looking.
