What does your new handgun do that your last handgun wouldn't?
Is it twice as accurate? is it half the size ? so it conceals much better?
does it float , in case you find your self in the drink?
what percentage of your decision to buy a new one was based on performance?
is the new one 50% easier to clean?

Cartridge, capacity, accuracy, ease of use, lighter trigger.

The KT was a purchase on a budget at the time & still gets used for pocket carry.
The Sig also turns money into smoke & noise at a faster rate. This message has been edited. Last edited by: P250UA5, October 10, 2020 11:09 PM

Its been a long time since I bought a new one. It shoots 10mm.
Then there is the last one. It shoots 7.65mm Parabellum.

Well depends on what you mean. My newest wasn’t expected to be better. It was $350 for an FN 509. I bought it to add to the options for my kids to choose from.
If you mean the pistol that took over EDC role from the previous (9mm P320 CA/.40 P229), I gained 5 round capacity, faster first shot, same follow-ups, lighter weight and modularity options. I gave up some bullet size and energy, and added the slightest bit of grip length.

Why does it have to be twice or half of anything? I bought my last pistol because I wanted it.
Is it more accurate than what's in my pocket right now? Probably. More ergonomic? Yes. Doesn't conceal as well. Different action; something different. More expensive. It doesn't float. I haven't cleaned it yet, but yes, it cleans easier.
I put a bull shadow on layaway. Older technology, older design. Doesn't clean as easily. Tiny ejection port. Ridiculously long, ackward hammer. Single action trigger, takes it out of production class (disadvantage). Used, with goofy, ugly tan frame. Good price, and didn't want to pass it up. Does it do anything better? I don't know. Maybe more accurate. We'll see. Tighter chamber, less tolerant of round variations and ammunition types, for sure.
Some were purchased because they were a good deal, some because I wanted to try it out, others because I wanted a spare, and some just to set aside for family for the future. A few as gifts. None of them float. A few for concealment. Mostly because they were a good deal, though, and someone offered layaway and a chance to slowly pay it off. A few because they were related to a job. Those didn't float, either.

'Twas one of the first 50 P220s released in 10mm. Had plenty of P220s already, but I didn't need an excuse reason.

Nothing. It pokes holes in things, just like all the others do.

It fills a perceived need for a 10 shot .22 single action revolver. I already had 10 shot .22 semi autos and a 9 shot .22 DA revolver, and several 6 shot .22 double action revolvers. But no 10 shot .22 single action revolvers. I have been accumulating handguns for many years. There are very few things I might need a handgun for, that I don't already have a handgun that will do it. Altho I must confess to deep seated feelings of inadequacy caused by my lack of a water cooled machine gun.

If I find a gun that I'm at least moderately interested in, and it's at a price that I know I could resell it and at least break even, then I will probably buy it.
If it turns out the gun is keeper, then I'm happy w/ the deal I got. If not and I decide to sell/trade it, then I essentially got to rent the gun indefinitely for free. I'm also not forced by a rental counter to buy their ammo exclusively when I rent their gun.
There are a lot of guns out there, and it's fun to try out new things. As much as I like Sigs, I have been moving away from the P-classic platform, b/c I experimented w/ so many other guns.
So my big picture reasoning to answer the OP is, if a new gun increases my shooting enjoyment, and I can afford it, that's all the excuse/reason I need.

I just thought it was more fascinating than the other 50. I didn't have a CCO-size 1911 in 9 mm.
