You're going to feel a little pressure... |
Hey all- Booking flights, today, and saw one leg going through Chicago. Will my pistols really go missing, on a connection? Should I book a more expensive flight that avoids CHI? If you aren't picking up your checked baggage between flights it should be fine. _______________________________________________ Use thumb-size bullets to create fist-size holes.

I doubt you will experience any additional problems then you would have at any other large city airport.

I thought it was a TSA problem so losing it on a stopover would be a worry, then. If it's just thieves stealing Pelican cases off the baggage carousel, I'm good. How do they come out? Bruce "The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. My pistols (stored in a lock box in a regular roller bag) come out like normal. AR15 in a storm case went to the baggage office.

Depending on the airline, many of them are treating bags with guns like "lost bags" that missed a connection. They have a tag that tells the handler to bring it to the luggage office. You then pick it up there. Reduces theft risks and doesn't put any special notice your bag contains a gun (again, treated just like a bag that had missed a connection). I travel with a hardside suitcase that locks with TSA locks, and then a separate lock-box with a cable that threads through the frame of the suitcase. That lock-box uses a non-TSA lock. You'd have to have tools or completely destroy the suitcase to steal the contents of the inner box.

I flew through midway earlier this month with a pistol in the checked bag. No issues.

For a discreet travel case I use an old Samsonite suitcase I purchased on ebay. If anyone was into stealing suitcases, mine would be the last one that they would grab. -c1steve

Unless the guns are in an obvious gun case, none of the baggage handlers (airline workers, not TSA) would know the contents. Can the thieves select bags at random and steal whatever is in them? Probably.

Most airlines seem to be marking the outside of luggage that contains a firearm.

I did not know that! I've never checked a firearm, but I've read about the tag that goes into the bag.
