I have a Sig 226 in .40 I want to get milled for a Holosun ACSS sight.

In the past I have used ATEi for milling my classic P-series slides. I like their work and I really like that they mill the front recoil studs in the slide (I don't think everyone does that).

That said, I would like to hear from other forum members that have had a classic (P-series) Sig slide milled. Who did you use? Are you happy with their work? Did they mill the front recoil studs in the slide? What was the cost and turn-around time for the work?

I have heard good things about Parker Mountain Machine's mill work. Not sure if they mill the studs in.

I appreciate your feedback.

Thanks!

I used Vulcan Machine for a P226 and Maple Leaf for a P320. Very happy with both and the did machine stand offs.

I had my P226 done by Parker Mountain, but for a 407K. They did not mill the studs at the front, but left "posts" around the screw holes, which serve as studs and also provide more material for the screws to thread into, as there is a pretty significant lightening cut under the slide and milling it flush wouldn't have left much material. The optic also has a perfect interference fit into the cut...it's not going anywhere.

Also be aware, it's probably going to expose the top of the firing pin stop plunger channel, and the spring will now ride against the bottom of the optic. Parker Mountain included a new spring that is a little shorter than the factory, and also returned my factory spring as well.

They were a little pricier than some of the competition, but had excellent communication and got the work done within the advertised timeframe. I'm sure if you had any questions about it you could email them...they were very responsive to my inquiries and got back to me within a day. I will definitely go through them again if I decide to have another P22X slide cut.

ETA: I have also used Maple Leaf for a P320 cut and was very happy with them as well, but they don't do slide cuts for the P22X guns. I had actually asked them first when I was looking to get my P226 done just because of the good experience I'd had with them in the past, but they told me they don't do those.

Below is a pic of the cut Parker Mountain did on my P226:

Thanks Pete - Do you know if Vulcan Machine mills the recoil studs in their cuts?

92fstech - thanks for that picture, that is an interesting approach. PMM is definitely one of the companies I am considering.

Anyone have other suggestions?

I also had a slide milled by PMM. I don't have it now but from what I recall, not only does the safety lever spring need to be slightly shortened so does the extractor pin. Factory milled slides use a shorter extractor pin.

I heard back from PMM - they are not presently accepting any slide milling work so they can focus on their product line.

Vulcan replied to my email that they do include the front recoil studs in their cuts. So I have Vulcan or ATEi as an option.

Any other recommendations I should consider?

Maple Leaf is good.
Monsoon Tactical is good.
Vulcan is good.
Impact Machine is good.
C&H Precision is good (I know there are mixed opinions on their plates but I found them to be very knowledgeable and responsive on slide milling.

I had a number of guns done by Jarod at PMM and am completely happy. But he is realistically not doing it at the moment. I looked at Vulcan and they say a 226 is not currently available. I can't see that Monsoon Tactical says they will do a 226 anywhere? Same for Impact machine. C&H doesn't actually direct mill it, they avoid the issue of depth with a plate.
I'm hoping that the situation with vulcan is temporary. In the meantime off goes another HK...

DaBigBR & hrcjon, thanks for the list and additional info.

Really helpful information! I am going to reach out to those companies and check price/availability and turn-around time for milling my 226 slide.

I don't know if you reached out to Vulcan yet, but full disclosure, I worked for them a few years ago, and I've known the owner for over two decades, and he and their lead machinist are meticulous to their attention to detail, and quality of work. If you go with them, you won't be disappointed. Cool

Thanks for another endorsement for Vulcan.

I called them today and they can mill my slide. They were very helpful and I got someone on the phone right away who answered all my questions, so I am going to go with them.

Thanks again to everyone who provided their input, I appreciate it!

I meant to post an update on this earlier for the benefit of the forum readership....but you know how time seems to slip by.

That said, I received my P226 milled slide from Vulcan Machine in RECORD TIME - they said they were doing a batch of P226's when they received my slide, so they were able to process it quickly. From the time I sent it to them to the time I got it back was less than 2 weeks...amazing!

Most importantly, they did a beautiful job, and their communication and customer service is top notch!

Thanks again to the Forum members who steered me to Vulcan Machine. I will definitely use them again in the future!

I wanted to share my experience for the benefit of any other Forum members who are looking to have a slide custom milled.

Cheers!

That's great to hear. Glad you were very satisfied with the results. Anecdotally I remember a turnaround time of one day for a customers Glock slide. Vulcan got it late in the afternoon. The next morning it got put in with a bunch of other Glock 17 slides belonging to a local police department, all getting a basic RMR cut, and black cerakoted finish. All of them came out perfectly, and less than 24 hours later, the same customers slide was sent back to them. NOW that is the EXCEPTION. When I was there the turnaround time you experienced was more the norm.

Again, glad you are happy with the work. I'll pass it along to the guys when I see them.
