| I would warn against using LE use as an indicator. LE is more about budget and bidding/sourcing than a best product. If it will basically do the job we will buy it even though perfect is $5 more. Not to start stuff and respecting opinions as best I can I will say if you do some environmental stuff you will see stuff fail or be substandard which at least to me is enough to make it a reality. |

Now of course I am not the end all be all database of information on this but anecdotally all the LEOs I’ve seen run RDO’s have them enclosed in a holster hood. I’ve never seen one completely open to the elements.

| I get all kinds of lint / dust build up in the trigger area and irons. And some on the RDS frame. But nothing on the RDS lens / optics. I do get some grease (I think) on the lens that I clean occasionally using lens wipes. Nothing really obscures view. I think it's from oil mist from cooking because I place my ccw on the counter when cooking.

| I can believe this. But as such, once the gear gets into the field, it will become pretty common knowledge if it is working or not. Have you been hearing complaints about the RMRs having blocked emitter issues? quote: Originally posted by Anubismp: I would warn against using LE use as an indicator. | I dont find that cops are any more gun people than car or watch people. Some will do maintenance and upkeep and watch their equipment some will have food stuck in their guns. I find talking to the armorers better than talking to cops and even then everyone has their own biases pushing into things. My thoughts on closed being superior to open is a combination of doing environmental testing with all of the common optics and combining it with the fact that the Safariland holster hood likes to depart from the holster without a lot more than a dirty look. I'm being a little fun with that but you do often find them after a string of shooting. Dont get me wrong, you arent going to explode if you have an open emitter and I'm not selling off my opens I just see a clear benefit to closed especially when it comes to iwb where at least my stuff gets lint in it. Closed emitters are getting very close to the price of open and there's no downside so why not hedge your bets? |
