Taurus TX-22 Competition
I saw an ad for this pistol in the last issue of American Rifleman and it sparked my interest. Does anyone here have any first hand experience with this pistol? I'd be interested in trigger pull weight, accuracy ect...

Thanks!

Initially the TX-22 was getting lauded. A lot. Then production reality seems to have set in. A lot of criticism regarding their barrels and the lack of QC with regards to how they do their rifling, affecting accuracy. Some have reported that their replacement barrels weren't any better. As for the Competition model...who knows? If Taurus finally fixed their barrel manufacturing woes, then it's probably going to be a good .22LR pistol. If you're shopping for one, that wouldn't be a gun that I recommend buying online. I'd want to inspect the barrel in-person before even thinking about buying one.

The TX22 seems popular as a plinker but it has had it's share of problems with bad barrels, slides breaking at end where RSA sits, breaking firing pins, breaking extractors, and poor customer service with longer term durability in question.

If you are concerned about trigger, accuracy, and good quality IMHO you would be better off investing in Ruger Mark series, Browning Buckmark, or S&W Victory.

Thanks all for the information and advise. I'll have to do a little more research.

My kid just bought one. It choked quite a bit on Federal bulk ammo but ran fine on CCI mini-mags. Might do better with bulk ammo after more break-in. Accuracy was typical for a .22 plinker. He has about 250 rounds through it so time will tell how his will run. His is the standard model. I tried to steer him to a Ruger Mark IV or Buckmark but you cant tell him anything.

Friends don't let friends buy Taurus. Sadly, I've gone down the Taurus road a couple of times in my life, and neither were positive experiences. I was too dumb to heed the warnings of others, or even learn from my own experience the first time around. Don't be like me...don't buy a Taurus.

There are good, proven options out there from reputable companies that actually work...like the Browning Buckmark or the Ruger Mk Series. Get one of those instead. Seriously.

On the other hand, I'm glad Taurii exist, because when people spend their money on them, it leaves more good guns for me.

I purchased a standard TX22 last year and it has been super reliable on anything I feed it - very pleased with it.
